CP Plus Parking Charge - Moto Services / Travelodge

Hi all,
Before I begin I would like to say I have been reading many forums for the past couple of hours about how to handle this and I understand the advice is not to ignore.
I received an invoice from CP Plus for £100, reduced to £60 if payment is received in 14 days. I also recognised it does include a legit VAT Number at the bottom of the letter - making me thinking just ignoring it wasn't the best idea as from what I have read this isn't commonly seen...?
I feel entirely comfortable using the appeal template of the **NEWBIES** thread, however I feel my circumstances are a little different and potentially easier to negate.
I arrived at 21:35 at the Cardiff Moto services and left the following morning at 7:50am. I spent the night in the Travelodge directly opposite the parking facilities and was told by the member of staff at reception it was fine to park in said car park.
I was with 3 other friends who parked next to me and they have all received Parking Charge Notices from CP Plus even though they stayed in the Travelodge too.... I find this a little ridiculous
My question is - do I wait 28 days for the NTK, then respond to CP Plus, or try and resolve it directly with Travelodge?
Sorry this is a little long winded and hopefully I have provided enough details.... Any advice would be massively appreciated.
NOTE (JUST FOUND THIS ON THE TRAVELODGE WEBSITE PAGE FOR THE HOTEL)- Travelodge car park has 50 spaces, free of charge available on a first come first served basis.
The car park adjoining the hotel is owned by Moto and operated on their behalf by CP Plus. All Travelodge customers travelling by motor vehicle must enter their vehicle registration number into the console at hotel reception when checking in. This will ensure free parking for the duration of your stay. Failure to do so may result in an administration fee of £15. Travelodge Hotels Ltd will not be liable for any fines incurred. Travelodge customers do not need to pay and display. Quite cheeky if you ask me bearing in mind I didn't even get asked to put my details into their 'console'!!!

start with the template letter to the PPC
if you have receipts or bank statements etc for the business itself then complain to them too , enclosing copies of the paperwork, demanding cancellations
also tell them that they are not allowed by law to "fine" people , nor to issue any penalties either, so you object to them using the legal term FINES on their website or paperwork because it is meaningless , only a judge or a court of law can "fine" you0 -
Complain to Travelodge and TELL them to get the ticket cancelled. Their member of staff told you parking was OK, and didn't mention any nonsense about registration numbers in a machine, therefore it's on them to sort out their own mess. What it says on a website is irrelevant, as it cannot possibly form part of any alleged contract.0

You already have your NTK, the postal PCN is that document (unless these were windscreen tickets?). Send the usual appeal and tell your friends if they ignore or pay this they need their heads examining. Meanwhile also complain to MOTO and Travelodge (both Head Offices and/or both local Managers, rattle some cages).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:
Home»Motoring»Parking Tickets Fines & Parking - read the NEWBIES THREAD0 -

Perhaps including a prominent CC to Eric Pickles (picklese@parliament.uk) might add a bit of ammunition for his current hobby horse? It might also 'put the wind up' MOTO/Travelodge to know that their customers are complaining to the government.
Would this be something to encourage all email complainers to do?:j0 -
I am fighting this EXACT SAME THING (well damn close) in this thread:
...which I would link to if the forum would let me. Thread titled "CP Plus - Unexpected reply. What next?".
Parking ticket whilst staying at Travelodge at a MOTO Services. My Travelodge mentions nothing about inputting a car reg on the website but like yours, says there are a number of free spaces.
I have sent off the NEWBIE letter to CPPlus, who are trying to get the drivers info out of me (not gonna happen). I have the reply drafted thanks to another user. I also have a letter drafted for MOTO and Travelodge.0 -
In addition to CM's list go on Trip Adviser and cause some grief. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

Actually, you have an unusual defence. The landowner is Travelodge and you write
"NOTE (JUST FOUND THIS ON THE TRAVELODGE WEBSITE PAGE FOR THE HOTEL)- Travelodge car park has 50 spaces, free of charge available on a first come first served basis.
The car park adjoining the hotel is owned by Moto and operated on their behalf by CP Plus. This will ensure free parking for the duration of your stay. Failure to do so may result in an administration fee of £15. Travelodge Hotels Ltd will not be liable for any fines incurred. Travelodge customers do not need to pay and display."
Now that makes it clear that failure to register can only mean that you are liable to pay the landowner £15 as you were a guest. The PPC has no claim, if you can prove that you stayed at the hotel, irrespective of what any notice may say.
By proving to the PPC that you were a guest, you can invoke that particular clause. So, technically, you owe Travelodge a £15 administration fee. Wait till Travelodge (not the PPC) issue a demand for that then !!!!!!!!!!0 -
Actually it says "may result in an administration fee".0
