Restaurant chair ripped my new jeans, where do I stand?

My partner ripped his jeans on a piece of metal sticking out of a chair in a restaurant yesterday and the managers first response was 'would you like a new chair?' These were new jeans and very expensive, where do we stand?

I'd suggest it sounds like an accident - unfortunate but they do happen.

You could try to ask the manager of the restaurant if they would consider offering some towards the cost of a new pair of jeans or having them repaired but I very much doubt this would happen. I'd mark this one down to experience

I think you need to take them to the High Court immediately and that you should contact all major media companies. Theres going to be a right scramble for this cutting edge story.

This does not sound like any kind of deal or bargain to me, so why not keep it to your established thread in the correct forum instead of spamming it in this one?

You should have reached an agreement with the manager before leaving the restaurant. I would say £50 towards the cost of new jeans or repair is reasonable. If the jeans are worth more than £100, then if I was the manager that would be the maximum I would give as it is to a degree your risk wearing an expensive item. A pair of Levi's is £50-£100 and that is what I would base any compensation on if I was the manager in that case.
If the manager was unable to agree something, then write to corporate office or the owner.

Agree with the people who have said that you should have said something at the time.

If it was yesterday, then you have little (or no) chance of recompense.
