Broadband with flexibility to change

Options
My father is old and has carers. We want to put broadband into his house, so he can skype to relatives and so the carers can use it. However, what would happen if either he died or had to move into a care home while he was still under contract?

We want to get one that is cheap.
He lives in Bristol. I think the most common in his area are BT, Sky, and TalkTalk.
He is currently with Utility Warehouse, and has been for a long time. I think he is with them for gas and electricity as well as phone.

Not sure even to start going about all this! Please can anyone help?
Thanks.

If he died the contract would be cancelled. The provider would need to be sent a copy of the death certificate to sort it out.

If he moved into a care home he would be responsible for any cancellation fees and outstanding payments.

In what way would you want to change ??
Someone takeover the costs at the relevant property ??

Recently my Mother died and the situation was that due to funeral and sorting stuff out i let her BT account run for a couple of months paid from her bank account . Then closed the contract by phoning BT Probate team . Contract just ended on that date with nothing further to pay .

That might be the case with other providers but not Sky. Sky would cancel without penalty in either case. They don't ask for death certificates either.
It's an immediate cancel too no need for notice in those two scenarios.

Agreed (I've come across this policy firsthand)- It honestly amazes me other providers don't have the same policy.

I listened to a call on this topic- the daughter had taken a few weeks to notify Sky of her Dad's death and the first thing that was said was they would remove any charges after the date of death. It is beyond belief that BT stopped charges from notification date rather than date of death. That is just cold.
