though getting them was very much like the "Black Friday" scenes in the media! :rotfl:
People were pushing & shoving before staff could unload the containers of them.
At £7 - odd for a whole leg though, I'm not surprised!
Got one yesterday and ate it last night. Delicious. There were 100's of them on the shelves, so I am not concerned.....NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Well yes if you can find it at this price off the bone then it would be cheaper but its usually very expensive to buy this way. The bone is very useful for stock so that's a bonus for me.Slimming World at target0 -
See what you mean Meg, and I live solo and still have a load of stock from the cheap chickens in Lidl a few weeks ago. And I see that the price has been discounted to allow for the bone.0

I buy 4 or 5 at a time then take it off the bone into steaks and small joints , bag the trimmings for curries etc and then turn all the bones into stock which I reduce till very thick and then freeze in ice cube bags . I usually end up with about 16 to 18 legs depending on size in the freezer .[/QUOTe
Thank you for this, it is the true old style way, I was raised by a Grandmother,, who didn't even have fridge but knew the value of buying a joint and making the most of it.Not everyone can buy a freezer or has the money to buy a years worth but I think can buy a joint and make it last the week.
Thanks for this meg. I did take a look but while I do it with beef, I was feeling a bit idle to take it home and butcher it myself. I normally cook for two and they were really just too big. We're away at Easter otherwise I might have bought it for then.
Strangely enough, they seemed to have a special 'butchery' counter in my Asda (next to the fish) with all the lamb laid out. I wonder if anyone would have butchered it for me if I'd asked? Didn't seem to be anyone serving though, probably just for show.0 -
When we buy the cheap legs of lamb, we freeze them first and then my husband finds it easier to saw them into the required sizes. He has tried to do this to a fresh leg of lamb, but the meat has a tendency to tear.0
