If there was compulsory training for cyclists, would that put you off cycling?

Now this guy is spot on in highlighting the type of cycling in London by some who obviously need "training".

Look at this guy. He's drunk behind the wheel, breaks the speed limit and doesn't stop for police. Obviously the driving test doesn't provide sufficient training to enable this driver to operate a vehicle responsibly.

So... what changes do you think we need to make to driving tests to ensure that people don't break motoring laws?

You obviously assume from my comment that my driving style when negotiating cyclists, is dependent on how responsible they are riding.... how very narrow minded of you.

No assumption, my friend. You wrote it, just as you wrote that you were prejudiced against some cyclists. It's clear as day that you would differentiate between cyclists, that your driving style would be less considerate if the cyclist was a novice or less competent than I.

That's not the mark of a good driver.

It's bad enough admitting to being prejudiced. But when you admit to taking that prejudice on to the road and acting on it, that's not good.

Do you still drive coaches? I really don't think you should.

Not sure how we know he was a drunk driver looks like a case of stolen to me but yeah, completely reckless/dangerous, no argument.

Obviously there are those who are beyond training, some even don't have licences in the first place!

First of all, i'm not your "friend". Secondly you deffo are assuming as you have no accurate idea what so ever how I drive in any circumstance. You have selectively chosen to misinterpret a comment (or comments) I have made to portray this deluded opinion of yours that I somehow actually drive in a manor that would put other road users at risk.

I don't know about you saying that I shouldn't be driving coaches, I certainly don't think someone as narrow minded as you should be a police officer (that's is you are really one in the first place).

    Have a nice day.

If you don't mean it, don't write it. But often the truth comes out in throwaway comments. That's where the thinness of your skin is revealed.

You have a bit of a confused attitude to law breaking too. Is law breaking only bad when others, eg cyclists, do it?

  • Tilt - why do you feel that I am personally responsible for the actions of someone I've never met because we happen to choose a similar mode of transport?

Why do you think I think you are "personally responsible"? Are you not capable of holding a debate about the subject? After all this thread is about training?

That doesn't answer the question. I await a reasonable debate.

Some stately homes do have quite badly designed car parks.

Surely, it’s obvious that Tilt doesn’t hold any individual cyclist responsible for the behaviour of cyclists in general, and to suggest otherwise is, by Norman Castle’s definition, the behaviour of a troll.

The friction between motorists and cyclists is most apparent when both are in commuter/innercity mode, and it’s almost certainly generated by the stress levels which are created by that environment. But, for many road users, it is those very stress levels which make road usage ‘fun’. As a truck driver, I regularly gained enormous pleasure from threading my truck safely and successfully between Waitrose at Swiss Cottage and Waitrose in King’s Road Chelsea. Cyclists in general were just a small part of the conundrum, and I was frequently surprised by the risks which some cyclists were happy to take. But, so long as they were having fun, then it was OK by me.

Rightly or wrongly, it is easy for motorists to perceive cyclists as a nothing but a nuisance. Cyclists, on the other hand, are well-advised to regard motorists as a threat. Unfortunately, there is an increasing tendency for cyclists to seek refuge by riding on the pavements.

Based on what? (and don't cite your own opinion as a source)
