If they decide to investigate and have any evidence that the car has been driven during the period of no tax, he would not only be done for the more serious offence of driving without tax but probably perverting the course of justice as well.
I would just pay the penalty and have done with it.What will your verse be?

I fail to see why op should have to pay any fine if it was caused by a poorly programmed website. If ops successfully gone through the taxing process I also fail to see how some can imply he's to blame for not checking
Then you clearly have a lack of understanding as to how the system works. The system is harsh but the law clearly states that you must ensure that your car is taxed or you will be fined - if it isn't then you haven't.0 -
Got a letter through, I only have to pay back tax owed, which is fair.
Though the only way you can pay back tax is via cheque or postal order, this is 2015 not 1989, banks rarely even gives out cheque books these days. Would a Direct Debit be that hard to implement on their new website design?0 -
You might find that 'a bit buggy' too.

Stick a cheque in the post... oh, and don't forget to get a certificate of posting will you?
Thank's, managed to dig out a friend's old book to write a cheque for me and sent it off with proof.
It just seems odd that they make this big push to make everything online and easier to access but don't make a option to pay owed tax via card or even a wire transfer.0
