A gap in car tax.
I bought my car 3 months ago, I went through the website and taxed the car online - keep in mind the DVLA website was still very buggy at this point, but it clearly never went through.
Now though, after a quick search into when my MOT is due I see that the car's tax status is "not taxed", a quick look through my credit card statement shows that no payment had been made. Subsequently, after now renewing the tax online I'm told that I may be contacted in regards to the gap.
What fines may I be looking at and do I have any standing against them or should I just bite the bullet?

Pretty sure it's your responsibility to make sure your car is taxed.
When I taxed my car, I made sure to check for the confirmation email. Guess you skipped this step.0 -

upto £1000 for no tax. But its usually more like £80 - £100, + any back tax etc.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

£1,000 is usually if it goes to court but they should offer the opportunity to pay a penalty first. What will your verse be?

I fail to see why op should have to pay any fine if it was caused by a poorly programmed website. If ops successfully gone through the taxing process I also fail to see how some can imply he's to blame for not checking0

I can see where you are coming from, but surely they should have noticed that no payment had been taken and that no confirmation email was sent?0 -

No tax is a strict liability offence which means it doesn't matter why you don't have tax, only that you don't.What will your verse be?

No confirmation email, No funds taken. To me that would mean that it failed and i would have tried again or phoned them the next day not months down the line.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
