Car check - head gasket especially??

Going to take my car to garage tomorrow just bought it, Seems to run alright.

But i noticed a small bit of white gunk around oil cap. How much would it cost to get a garage to check if the head gasket is fine...

Want to also get them to check and resync all tyre pressure, check timing and timing belt as the belt looks quite new, Also want them to check suspension because when i go over a bump or a tiny pot hole or something it's quite a bang or rough.

Any one got rough ideas much this will cost me....

Why not ask the garage how much it will cost?

Some white gunk around oil cap can just be condensation so long as the dipstick looks free of cream and the water expansion tank is not full of gunk. The garage can do a compression test but a waste of money unless you definitely think there is a problem.

Suspension could be a drop link; quite cheap to fix but may as well wait for the MoT to pick it up.

Was there no receipt for a timing belt change? Did you ask the previous owner? You can't tell much by looking at it; it might look alright but may be needing renewing. You can tell ones that look worn out and old but you can't say 100% that a fitted belt that looks OK is OK.

Why didn't you get these things checked before you bought the car?

I'm taking to garage tomorrow at 10am, But just wanted a rough idea how much things cost.

I guess im just being pernickety about things, I want everything perfect. The car runs perfect. The dip stick just showed oil no white stuff.

Yeah like get them to put the correct air pressure in the tyres and just if there ok tyres i guess.

Yeah when i bough the car he mentioned something about the timing or something to do with it. The timing belt looks quite new so was just curious and will get garage to have a look.

    vauxhall corsa 1.2 16v active/energy i think.

have you had the big plastic cover off the timing belt , or are you looking at the fan belt?

I would have thought that anyone capable of doing this task (and tools) would have found resyncing all tyre pressure quite easy

The Corsa 16v 1.2 does not have a timing belt; it has a chain.

was awaiting the report on a good fanbelt.

OP , if you take your car to a garage , with this attitude , you might as well write you pin number down and leave your card.

Just give them a blank cheque and they will fill them in. Surely you check your tyre pressures weekly so you know what pressure is in them already? Same with the legal tread yo do check them weekly dont you?

And the oil and other fluid levels, They should all be checked weekly.

To check the head gasket and timing you not into a standard service. Do you want them to do a quick check or a full proper sniffer test and compression tests etc?

Lots of short journeys? That could be why its white under the cap. You need to get the car upto temperature more often and then do at leat 30 minutes of driving after the gauge reads normal.

lol your probably right as regards to what i seen, But i am sure when i bought he mentioned something about the timing,

Weill get the garage to see anyway.

Want to see if the steering i ment needs aligning or anything and get them to put the correct pressure in am sure it's 31psi for front and like 26 apparently for a corsa but ill let garage do it that way i know its been done correct.

I always doubt myself and double guess everything.
