Ad-Aware download now asking for serial No,unlock key and licence type info?

Hi Anyone out there?

I've just downloaded Ad-Aware as recommended to start adding extra security to my PC and now a pop up box has appeared asking for lincence information in particular my serial number? and unlock key? and asking me to select licence type? I only wanted to download the free version of ad-aware which i'm sure I did do. I followed the link from the malware/spyware removal thread.

Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do?

Cheers!

I think when I installed it I just choose licence type home and it installed free without needing serial number etc

Followed Browntoa's suggestion of uninstalling Ad-Aware & installing SUPERAnti-spyware and have found 3 trojan's and an unknown virus already!!!!

    Thanks Browntoa!

I was going to suggest the other day that the malware guide probably needed a bit of updating.

  • Ad-Aware 2007 when you first install it asks for a key code but that is only to get access to more features which you have to pay for the basic stuff is still free i think you just have to press cancel and it will load up fine

did some updating to the thread the other day as it happens, removed the link to AVG anti spyware (rumour is they are about to start charging for it) and replaced that with Superantispyware.....which is still free

Ad-Aware is excellent for getting rid of Adware. Install it again, and press "Cancel" when you're asked for a license key. This will give you a free license with real-time protection disabled. There is no need to remove SUPERantispyware as well, as Anti-spyware programs generally coexist in peace.

hi browntoa just been to www.superantispyware.com but mcafee siteadviser poped up giving me this warming!

    superantispyware.com

red-xbg2.gif When we tested this site we found links to programshome.com, which we found to be a distributor of downloads some people consider adware, spyware or other potentially unwanted programs.

definately OK , I think that refers to a few years ago when adverts for those sites appeared on the superantispyware homepage

running on my own PC as we speak, bit further down on the same page

    17 green downloads
In our tests, we found downloads on this site were free of adware, spyware, and other potentially unwanted programs.
