Mac code and Broadband cancellation

Just got my Mac code from Virgin (am going over to BT who I have got my line rental with)and it says in the email that my broadband will be cancelled as soon as I hand it over to another company.
On BT website it says that won't happen until I am up and running with the new provider.
I have to give my Mac code to complete my online order with BT. Does this mean the minute I complete my order I will be disconnected from Virgin?
Also on my Virgin email it says the day I requested the Mac code will be the start of my 30 notice period with them and any charges will be collected.
Considering that Virgin are doing the cancelling of services (on the 23 March in my case) and not me, I think it is a cheek!

If you are on Virgin Media's non cable broadband that are being move on to Talk Talk, then you shouldn't lose VM broadband until you become a BT broadband customer ( unless it's Infinity) as the exchange work to remove VM broadband is done at the same time as the BT service provided,
A MAC isn't in itself notice to quit a provider, you can get a MAC and if you don't use it , by giving it to another company , it expires after 30 days and you stay with whatever provider you are with, in your case though, I would think if you did nothing VM will sell you to TT and once TT have you, it will be a new minimum term contract0 -
Yes, that's why I decided to go over to BT as I have paid a years Line Rental upfront and didn't want to lose anything on that.
It is BT Infinity I am looking at ordering so it looks like I will be without any Broadband service for a while which I was trying to avoid.0 -
If you transfer to BT via MAC and request Infinity, the only downtime you should have is half an hour or so on the day the engineer turns up, that is usually the worst case scenario as well.0
