Microsoft Lumia 435 phone, Windows 8.1, 4" screen with microSD card slot ............. from £29-99 as an upgrade or £39-99 plus minimum £10 top-up @ Carphone Warehouse. :j

Has front & rear camera too, PLUS it WILL be upgraded to Windows 10 when that arrives.

Of course at this price, it IS a "basic" phone - but what a lot you get for the money!

PS - these come sim-free from CPW!

Edit: 17/03 - now an amazing £24-99 as upgrade OR @ £39-99 plus £15 top-up!

Looks like a great deal although I'd strongly recommend people consider the 535 instead. It has a bigger screen and better camera for £20 more. Still some people prefer the more compact size :)

Both are a much better deal than the 530 which was the bargain Windows phone last year. The 530 only has 512MB RAM which is enough just now but it might limit features once Windows Phone 10 is released.
  • Got one off these on Saturday from EE £24.99 plus £10.00 top up on a PAYG upgrade.
Got it as a spare phone/cheap SAT NAV would have to say quite like it, used the offline HERE maps to see what it was like and was quite impressed.
And as said above will get Windows 10,not as many apps as in the Android store but what it has works for me.

I was tempted to get the 535, however the Internet is awash with stories about its poor touch screen responsiveness. Even after updates, online videos show the its still an issue. Presumably related to hardware, rather than software.

    and

I've sold two Nokia Lumia 710's over the past month or so.
Used for approx 3 years, with smaller screen & Windows phone 7.8.
BOTH sold on an auction site for more than one of these would cost as an upgrade!
In fact they sold for ALMOST as much as a 435 with new sim, even after fees!

Honestly - for the money - these 435's make a great buy!
And if you want more from your phone, of course it will cost more.
    Just like buying anything else.

The 635 I now possess is great for my purposes.
