Short term Tethering

Am I right in thinking Tesco Mobile on PAYG with a data bundle are going to be just as bad as GiffGaff?0 -
They'd be able to detect you're using a MiFi router.
But if you tether using a mobile phone it would appear to the network that you're only using the phone handset. They wouldn't know what you have tethered to it. They might be able to guess, based on usage and usage type.
They can tell your connection may be going to more than the phone but not to what device.
Could be as simple as your browser strings say your using IE, but your on an android device. Could be your using a protocol / port that's not possible on a Mobile, if they detect World of Warcraft on a phone that's a give away its tethered. Could be the android or Apple specifically splits the data so the network can tell if its tethered or not, (always been in IOS, think it came into Android at v4 as a possible setting, but the Dev may or may not have set it correctly). could be looking at the packets and checking TTL settings
However, unless you really cane it they may not care...0 -

I can't remember where Tesco PAYG is on the priority tier system, so they might well be, but having said that, I've seen a number of people commenting that Giffgaff seems to be improving so both should be better than they were last year.====0 -
            Folks :-
To answer my questions...
A quick google revealed a post on this website that noted that Tesco Mobile was a higher tier than GiffGaff and with their pay £10 get £30 worth of credit that seemed to be the way to go.
I get to where I was working and find the coverage maps lied and O2 / Tesco Mobile / Giff Gaff coverage was appalling. Oddly enough EE was fine. For a couple of days I used my usual phone sparingly as a hotspot, then went to buy an Orange PAYG SIM.
Before I could activate / top it up I saw an offer for the EE buzzard car wi-fi device which came with 2GB data and when plugged into a USB charger acted like a mi-fi device and only cost £9.97.
That worked very well for my purposes.
I hope that helps

            Kevin,
You made a good choice with the EE Buzzard at that price.
I have one I bought on the £30 inc. 6GB of data offer last year and it is a very handy device to have.
The 3 month 6GB EE SIMS are currently £15 on Amazon. I've a couple in stock for trips.0 -

You can unlock the Buzzard for 99p and then use any sim you like (especially if you go abroad).
I used this seller, he supplied the code in under 30 minutes on a Saturday evening (code 1 gave an error, code 2 worked on mine).
