Hi I believe the currency of Brazil is the 'real' but I was just wondering if any other currencies are acceptable?

In general, none. You might find US dollars accepted in some very touristy areas, but you should assume you'll be paying for everything in Reals.
Use a fee-free card, but be careful as card fraud is rife in Brazil. I had my Santander Zero card cloned there - Santander refunded me the fraudulent transactions without question, but obviously the card had to be cancelled.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -

Agreed, I've also had a card cloned there, but only once in several visits. Don't ever let your card out of your sight. In restaurants, if they don't bring a card machine to the table, go to the cashier yourself to pay. Even then you have to be vigilant they don't quickly swipe it on a reader for cloning as well, but generally you should be ok doing this.
Best to have a backup card which you haven't used, in case it does happen.
Don't let it put you off though, fantastic country to visit (except Sao Paulo for me, I've never liked it).0 -

I've been to many places and have been warned about plenty of them and thought to my self "why did I panic about that, it was fine". However with Sao Paulo, I kept hearing over and over how big, bad and scary it was, so I understandably was a little apprehensive. My experience of it however was a great big city.Don't let it put you off though, fantastic country to visit (except Sao Paulo for me, I've never liked it).
An easy Metro system, and plenty of restaurants. Not to mention, the typical friendly Brazilian everywhere.
Anyway back to the currency. It's Real.
If you need any tips or hints on anything, feel free to pm.0 -

The famous parts of Rio are beautiful and definitely worth seeing - but I'd rather drive down the coast road a bit to somewhere like Paraty/Trindade...Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
