I couldn't currently buy a house locally, was told today by bank mgr that the £250 I'm putting every month in RS is a lot on my wages - did tell him that I don't think that anyone would offer me a mortgage to currently buy a house on my wages which he agreed.
I've built up at least twice my salary in savings, but no one will offer me a mortgage on my current earnings. I put between 1/2 and 2/3 of current wages into savings and still not enough to get a place of my own.
Current prices for ex LA places are £120k here in a not so nice part of area.0 -
With calculations I have made, a deposit sa buddy to live with, or who wants half an investment but would let you live there on your own?)
As for the comments about people buying houses to extend them:
Capitalist society, I'm afraid. I'd do the same, everyone's trying to make a buck or two.
If I don't buy small, and then extend/improve etc- therefore making a profit on my first property, I'll be stuck in a one bedroom house in BrokenJaw-ville for ever!
Now, having two houses- that's a bit selfish, isn't it?
Some of us haven't even got ONE!!"Money is the root of all evil" -Poor person.

Some of us can't afford to save enough for a deposit. I'm sick of people complaining about things they don't have a clue about.0 -

Could you look at getting a second job or perhaps changing careers to a better paid role?
I haven't even started my career yet. I need to save some money to get my licence first, I want to be an estate agent. Plus finding a job as an estate agent is hard (well maybe not as hard as I think) because they usually don't advertise. As soon as I can drive, I'm going to write letters to every single estate agent in Hull. My income is very low, but it's a lot higher than any other job I've had. :rolleyes:0
