  • Hi Folks

For those considering non-grammar schools look at the admission criteria closely, my dd didn't get her first choice based on their tiebreaker, which was distance but got her second choice on their tiebreaker which was based on the first letter of the surname. Particularly watch out for the eldest child criteria as that might throw a spanner in the works for those with older siblings at different schools.

    :)
  • The tutor we had booked for son of his aqe has just let us down- gutted and cross!! Has anyone any recommendations for an aqe tutor in lisburn area? Happy to drive within 10miles?
  • Sorry can't help but my advice is not to bother with a tutor. Although we haven't got AQE results yet my DD said she learnt more at home with me than with the tutor!!
  • On Target tuitition, in the centre of Lisburn are brilliant and reasonable
  • I have a quick question for anyone who has had seen a child through the entire process from primary to secondary school, At the open nights for grammar/secondary schools, are application forms for that particular school given out on open days? as my son already knows which school he wants to attend, or is the application forms/process handled by the primary school after the AQE results have been received.
Any answers to this would be greatly appreciated.

Forms are filled in with your primary school teacher / head at the end of January beginning February.
You put down up to four schools in order of preference.
If your child has sat AQE then this result is added onto this form.
You dont actually apply yourself to any school - the open nights are simply for them to showcase what they do and encourage you to choose them.

  • The Transfer Form has been sent home from school today to fill in for next Monday. How crazy is that when we haven't even got the result yet!!!!

In recent years, all completed transfer forms had to be submitted by all schools to the Education Authority (previously called Boards) by a date in mid February. I've not heard that the Dept of Education has brought this forward this year. Is next Monday perhaps just a date your school has set and is it for those kids who didn't sit AQE or GL tests????

No need to panic - I just checked this out on the EA website & all forms are due in with them by Friday 12 February 2016 so Primary Principals will collect them in advance of that date to get them in on time. Hence parents will have time to await AQE / GL results and then complete forms the following week. EA instructions for transfer 2016 are as below

    January – early February 2016
Your child’s primary school will provide you with a Transfer Form and
guidance notes to help you complete the form.
On the Transfer Form you will be asked to list, in order of preference,
the post-primary schools (at least four) which you would like your
    child to attend.

    Friday 12 February 2016
When you have completed and signed the Transfer Form it should be
forwarded by your primary school to reach the EA by 12 February 2016
  • Thanks flymetothemoon, I'm just laughing that I won't know where my DD is going until I get results, but the school want the form completed for Monday 18th January!!
