Hi everyone. Still plugging away here! DD did 2014 paper 1 yesterday and got 83% then we sat and did some more maths revision tonight. She has lost focus though and is finding it really hard to keep her concentration. I think she's fed up with the whole thing, let's hope she perks up for Saturday

How did the GL'ers get on? X
  • Can anyone explain to me what is the difference in a grammar school education & a non grammar school education as all schools teach the same curriculum? Would be interested to know. Thanks
  • Grammar school offer more subject range for a start eg more modern languages , separate sciences too where non grammar or secondary may only have one language or double award science
Maths is also offered as a high additional level maths subject but not in secondary

More extra curricular opportunities I've noticed on more grammar schools

And not to be the first to mention you tend to get a better stream of people in grammar meaning those that want to work

Back to secondary though a secondary or non grammar from what I have viewed and enquired about tend to nurture the actual child's strengths more and help along the way whereas in grammar if you get in you are expected to maintain and improve on that standard the whole way through

These are just my opinions I went to grammar school and am swaying towards bin grammar for my ds even though he sitting transfer

Is this what you are asking thestack

My DD came home today with 67% in 2013 paper 3! Just letting you know that your DD's was a bit better! Paper 3 seems to be a real struggle for my DD so I'm now relying on good scores from paper 1&2. She has got in the 80's in 1&2 consistently in the last few weeks so let's hope this is the case for the real thing. It's a nightmare!

Thanks Flashfriend. In our experience the paper 3s are definitely more difficult although DDs teacher has told them paper 2 is the hard one! Let's hope they all got great scores in the first one! X
  • Miamam our paper 2 scores are always better than paper 3 so I hope this pattern continues. I was told about a child who got a low score in paper 3 but still manage 121 from the other 2 papers! I'll settle for anything above 90 lol!
  • Since the gl my DS thinks he is on his holidays and i don't think it has hit him that he has two more test yet to do

Yes thanks I never understood the difference but many all ability schools now offer the same as grammars & some have grammar streams, luckily my DS is at one - he loves it. Hope it all works out for everyone & they end up at a school they love. Good luck for Saturday.
  • Mine also thinks he is on a go slow top secret and I'm cruel for making him work still
