My DD came home today with 67% in 2013 paper 3! Just letting you know that your DD's was a bit better! Paper 3 seems to be a real struggle for my DD so I'm now relying on good scores from paper 1&2. She has got in the 80's in 1&2 consistently in the last few weeks so let's hope this is the case for the real thing. It's a nightmare!

My son came did the same paper at home tonight and got 69 - he normally is in the 80s. His focus is totally off since GL last Saturday (which totally seemed to deflate him). Roll on December!

Can anyone explain to me what is the difference in a grammar school education & a non grammar school education as all schools teach the same curriculum? Would be interested to know. Thanks
The big difference I'm told is that it's independent learning at a grammar school whereas secondary school pupils are taught and supported more in the classroom.
  • I have an older girl in year 11 in secondary school. She did the transfer test and didn't do great but that year grades weren't great all over and we would probably have got her into the local grammar but I'm so glad I didn't as I think it would have been a BIG mistake because as someone pointed out h
In grammer your just expected to be taught once and get on with it whereas in secondary they nurture the child's strengths. My DS was tested and streamed in Secondary and was lucky enough to get into a high class and I do believe preparing for the transfer test helped her. My DS has to work really really hard as it dosent come naturally to her but she is doing GREAT and doing exactly the same as my friends kids who are in the local grammer

That's why I'm swaying towards secondary for my ds
I don't think he will get enough for grammar and be able to keep up
Being the youngest he needs things explained more than once and
I feel it will be too intense for him
But he wanted to try the transfer tests so we shall see

I also will be pleased for anything above 90 It won't get Him into his School off Choice but it will hopefully get him into 2nd failing that it is High School which may suit him better anyhow .

Hi everyone. Still plugging away here! DD did 2014 paper 1 yesterday and got 83% then we sat and did some more maths revision tonight. She has lost focus though and is finding it really hard to keep her concentration. I think she's fed up with the whole thing, let's hope she perks up for Saturday

How did the GL'ers get on? X
My DD did 2014 Paper 1 today and got 81%. So glad I have you to compare scores as my DD can't tell me how anyone in the class is doing as they are told not to discuss it. The silly mistakes she makes are unbelievable!!

That's a great score Flashfriend! Fantastic confidence booster before Saturday.
DD did paper 2 and has amazed us all (and herself!) by getting 92%!! Bang goes the teacher's theory about paper 2s being the most difficult!
Anyway I'm delighted for her as she's now facing into Saturday with a positive attitude. X
  • Miamam that's a great score!!! I'm sure your DD is skipping about tonight. I'm glad we also have got a decent score for going in on Saturday.
  • Well since the gl DS has been on strike so I have finally got him sitting a practice paper now fingers crossed as I'm not really expecting too much :D Keep u posted
  • Bad mammy alert DS just completed a CEA paper and got 72% and just left 6 questions completely blank (he has never done that before) the the paper was a complete mess it was like he just didn't care so this bad mammy proceeded to get on to him:(. You will all be glad to hear I apologised and he is now lying on the sofa with big bar of chocolate. I just worry that now the gl is over and that is his 1st choice he has just lost all interest so order of the day tomorrow is to pamper and motivate him lol
