Why do wealthy people want the stress of becoming even more wealthy?

A ten year old has just said in a comic relief film that the best thing she's found on the rubbish dump is rice, to eat.
 We are all so wealthy.0

Just wondered. Someone told me years ago that the more wealthy you become, the wealthier circles you mix in, so you don't feel so wealthy.
 Does it ever end?
I've noticed this myself too, why be a slave to being more wealthy, you can't take it with you, they should chill out and enjoy it, but I guess the wealthier you are, the greedier you can become.Raven. :grinheart:grinheart:grinheart0

A wise lady once said to a meeting I was in ...
If you always compare yourself with people better off than yourself, you'll always be miserable. If you instead think about people less fortunate than yourself, and what you could do to help them, you'll be a lot happier.
We downsized last year, and aren't surrounded by as much wealth. So far, its proving to be true.
This is so true - someone else ALWAYS has more money, is better looking, has a prettier wife, bigger house, bigger car - its never ending - its the definition of Envy isn't it?
I find that those who hanker after more and cant get enough money or whatever - are those who will never be satisfied with what they have. They could be the richest person on earth - but they will still want what somebody else has.0

I read something like this once but it said 'never compare yourself to anyone as you'll either end up feeling envious or smug and neither is a good thing!'Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

This thread made me think of this story...
There was once a businessman who was sitting by the beach in a small Brazilian village.
As he sat, he saw a Brazilian fisherman rowing a small boat towards the shore having caught quite few big fish.
The businessman was impressed and asked the fisherman, “How long does it take you to catch so many fish?”
The fisherman replied, “Oh, just a short while.”
“Then why don’t you stay longer at sea and catch even more?” The businessman was astonished.
“This is enough to feed my whole family,” the fisherman said.
The businessman then asked, “So, what do you do for the rest of the day?”
The fisherman replied, “Well, I usually wake up early in the morning, go out to sea and catch a few fish, then go back and play with my kids. In the afternoon, I take a nap with my wife, and evening comes, I join my buddies in the village for a drink — we play guitar, sing and dance throughout the night.”
The businessman offered a suggestion to the fisherman.
“I am a PhD in business management. I could help you to become a more successful person. From now on, you should spend more time at sea and try to catch as many fish as possible. When you have saved enough money, you could buy a bigger boat and catch even more fish. Soon you will be able to afford to buy more boats, set up your own company, your own production plant for canned food and distribution network. By then, you will have moved out of this village and to Sao Paulo, where you can set up HQ to manage your other branches.”
The fisherman continues, “And after that?”
The businessman laughs heartily, “After that, you can live like a king in your own house, and when the time is right, you can go public and float your shares in the Stock Exchange, and you will be rich.”
The fisherman asks, “And after that?”
The businessman says, “After that, you can finally retire, you can move to a house by the fishing village, wake up early in the morning, catch a few fish, then return home to play with kids, have a nice afternoon nap with your wife, and when evening comes, you can join your buddies for a drink, play the guitar, sing and dance throughout the night!”
The fisherman was puzzled, “Isn’t that what I am doing now?”0

I did read a study once that found that people who were very successful have a lot of drive and like overcoming challenges. So they are not the type to just sit back when they achieve something. Instead they will set another challenge and will buy another business or try to reach another financial goal. That makes sense to me as I know a few retired rags to riches types and they are now throwing themselves 100% into hobbies or charity work as they get bored otherwise.
I also think the more you have the more expenses you have. I have a wealthy friend and all four of his kids are in very expensive public schools. They are all flourishing so he would never want to take them out of their schools. I think a lot of people wonder why he doesn't slow down, but they don't realise how much his kids are costing him!0

I don't believe everyone is like this.
I believe my hubby is wealthy, both financially and mentally, he has a fantastic job and is thought of highly and very well respected. He is always being asked to move up the career ladder. He always refuses. He says he is happy as he is, loves his weekend off, the freedom of being a senior but not 'too' senior.
I on the other hand am not what I call financially wealthy, but mentally wealthy I have it all. I love my life with my friends, daughter, hubby etc. However I am driven at work and want to progress, to take on more, do more. Be respected and rewarded.
I just think everyone is different, you can't stereotype.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
