Why do wealthy people want the stress of becoming even more wealthy?

Just wondered. Someone told me years ago that the more wealthy you become, the wealthier circles you mix in, so you don't feel so wealthy.
Does it ever end?

Perhaps the person who told you that was talking rubbish?0

Is that a similar principle to 'the bigger your handbag, the more rubbish you end up carrying around so even the biggest bag is never big enough'??0

I don't know but I look forward to finding out!
It's an interesting one. I guess wealth, like everything else, is simply a matter of relativity. There will always be people who are wealthier than oneself, and plenty of people who are poorer. So I suppose it depends on who you compare yourself with (that is, if you bother to compare at all.) I'm grateful for what I have and yes, I would definitely like more!
But I think I prefer to measure myself by how I feel. If I feel OK and comfortable with myself, it doesn't matter so much what anybody else has achieved materially, although I would of course congratulate anyone on successes large and small.
The thing I think everyone has in common, wealthy or not, is a wish to be happy (or happier) and for things to improve.
And that will never end. “All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 “All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0

This post has come at the perfect time as I have had the same discussion with my Dad this week. My Nan is 93, strong as an ox but has dementia. It has got to the stage where she cant be left. She owns a house and has ample savings. My Dad who has never had any money wants her to go into a home where she can be well cared for. My Aunty however who is absolutely loaded, wants her to stay in her house and have family look after which is totally impractical. It came to a full blown argument this week when my Aunty said to my Dad " you are kissing goodbye to your inheritance which will get eaten up with care home fees" My Dad's response was "I have never had any money, so cannot mourn money which was never mine to begin with, I would rather Mum was taken care of, in a way we cannot care for her, whether it eats up our inheritance or not"
Those with money always seem to be chasing more?? Why ??0

It could work the other way - those who chase money end up with money - and continue chasing it because that's what they do.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I'm not sure there is any evidence for this statement, did the person who told you have any?
However, you don't have to be wealthy to strive for a bit more, presumably that's why we are all here, to try to make what we have go a bit further!0

A wise lady once said to a meeting I was in ...
If you always compare yourself with people better off than yourself, you'll always be miserable. If you instead think about people less fortunate than yourself, and what you could do to help them, you'll be a lot happier.
We downsized last year, and aren't surrounded by as much wealth. So far, its proving to be true.0
