Cancelling a mobiles.co.uk contract

A couple of days ago I took out an iPhone contract through mobiles.co.uk. The contract is with EE.
I checked the coverage before ordering on the EE site and was advised my postcode would get double-speed 4G indoors and outdoors, I'm in London.
Upon receiving the package I put in the sim and found that infact I get 3G 1 bar at best and no signal or E at worst.
Looking at the T&Cs on the site they say a phone can't be returned after activating the SIM. Is this correct? How would I know the service was not as expected? Do I have any comeback?

Without trying a sim first you wouldn't know which it's why people advise to get a payg sim first to see what the coverage is like before tying in to a contract.
No comeback the coverage sites always have a disclaimer about being for guide purposes onlyIt's not just about the money0 -

Wow. That's terrible. Interestingly EE have a no quibble return policy but I presume my contract is with mobiles.co.uk rather than EE?0 -
Your lack of signal, is this inside or outside?0

Inside I'm afraid. The signal checker did suggest it would be double speed 4G indoors and out. I obviously thought it may be slightly lower but not that much.
It's a great deal as well. I'd love to keep it if the signal was sortable.0 -
Postcode checkers are simply not reliable, especially for indoors. One building in the way will block or degrade your signal, As mentioned above, always check the network first with a free PAYG SIM before committing to a lengthy contract. Unless you can prove mis-selling, you have no get-out, since no network guarantees universal reception. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I'll know for next time. It's the first time I've attempted to move provider in years.
In good news they've agreed to take it back.0
