  • Yeah, Welcome back :) we (as in speaking for myself) have all been awol at some time or other.

  • Well as i shamefully come back to the place that keeps me sane in the midst of this financial journey, I'm happy to report that despite my absence i have been keeping on with the OP's (I've updated post 1 to reflect our progress).

We're on track to be in the £86's by New Year. A great achievement for the year and only around £600 short of our ambitious £13k reduction target. On the horizon should be our remortgage offer as we are now 3 months away from current fix ending. Our offer shouldn't be a surprise as I've been looking regularly (equally unsurprising) and the plan is still for a 5yr fix with the intention to have this debt eradicated by the end of that fix a mere 12 years early.

I've had a few things going on over the last couple of months (something that seems to have dragged on for weeks), and hopefully i can explain all in the next week or so.

My running has continued but I've had 2 set backs which will stop me getting to 500 miles by New Years Eve. First up i got tendinitis which meant 2 weeks without running and then 2 weeks after getting going again (and i was being sensible before you all start) i got a minor calf strain which cost me another 10 days. I reckon I'll end up around 450-460, which is still a great achievement.

So I'm back and the intention is to stay and post regularly again. These diaries really are proof of the long haul that MFW status is!

My plans are formulating for next year, where i will start to put a bit more cash towards investments to balance a little more between MFW and retirement planning. This was always planned once we'd nudged £50k off the balance which we should get to by the end of January.

So i have my tin hat at the ready for the telling off's that will be deserved....

Good to see you back posting and it sounds like mortgage freedom is well under control. Hope you can be injury free now, wanting to run and being injured is so frustrating.

Glad to hear you’ve been resting to let your body heal post injury- it’s so frustrating when you want to train but the body says no, and so very tempting to just try regardless!

You’re making fantastic progress and I’m so glad to see you’re back to posting- I find your diary so motivating :)
    First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!

  • Well it has to be said that being back in the world of MF diary is strangely comforting. After an 11 hr day in work it nice to go home and log on, even though i have nothing to post. Actually i have...today was a NSD!

Thank you to all the welcome back messages its heartwarming to know that there's something out there in the ether of the "information super highway".

At lunch I had the regular fiddle with my overpayment spreadsheet and did a few 'what ifs'. Its amazing how it doesn't give me any surprises or magical insights anymore. I guess after 4 years we teach ourselves so much that there are no surprises left (good or bad), and all that remains is plans and discipline.
