Activating Sky Sports 5 Channel

Hi

I have Sky Variety Pack and Sports. Last night I wanted to watch the end of the Champions League match on Sports Channel 5 but was informed I needed to activate the channel.

I have read on this forum that this is just a formality but I have a half price package at the moment and I don't want to find that I have entered into a new full price contract.

Before I take it up with Sky just thought I would ask if anyone in my position has activated Sky Sports Channel 5. Does activation have any consequences?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread.... On my Sky+ box , since June I can now watch SS5 without having gone thru any hassle of "upgrading/activation"-HOWEVER, tried to watch it on Sky Go on the PC this morning -and get the message that I haven't got the relevant pack and need to upgrade -!!!!!! ???
