It's my driving license so it's my id aswell. If that's not my name anymore then I can get in trouble.
There's no "different issue" I'm asking about the counterpart!!

What on earth trouble can you get into.

My wife uses both her married name and her maiden name with no problem.

Changing your name on documents is a personal choice - not a legal requirement.

As long as the address is current everything is OK as it is.

Does the address on the licence match your current address if not it should do. I do not know about the name change.
But if you cannot afford the £20 to do things right can you really afford to be in charge of a car?

Wow! Where did I say I can't afford it? I said I don't want to pay £20 for sometching getting scrapped in june!
Seriously some horrible judgemental people on this site!

Well you then brought up using your licence as your ID.

When do you use your counterpart?

If you want to use your photocard as ID for your married name then you will have to change it.

But you have survived since November.

    I don't use counterpart.
THe dvla told me I need counterpart to change my name on my license.

What on earth did I say so wrong.

I asked would I get in trouble for waiting till June to change my name! THATS It.
Thank you all so much for your kind words and your helpful ways.

I only changed my name on my driving licence last year, and I have been married 5 years. I only changed it then to match some other documents for my DBS check. It really depends what mood I am in and who I am talking to as to whether I use my married name or not.

So no you won't get in trouble so long as your address is correct, what ever name you choose to use.

You don't need to have your current address (as in the place where you live)

You just need an address where they can reach you by post.

Yes, you do. Until June it is an integral part of your driving licence. If ever you need to produce your licence for anything related to your ability/permission to drive - you get stopped by the police, or you need to hire a car - you WILL need to produce both parts.

Whether your driving licence matches your married name or your maiden name, that's your choice. Some people keep their maiden name after marriage, some use both.

If you want to use your photocard as ID for your married name, then - obviously - you will need to change it. And, as DVLA have pointed out, until June you need both halves of your licence, or it will be treated as a lost licence.

If you want/need to use your licence as ID before you change the name in June why not keep a copy of your marriage certificate with you until then?

    Sure.

As posted, your "address" is where you can be contacted by letter.

You obviously have to notify changes if the DVLA have an address where you cannot be reached.

As normal with the .gov websites - just general advice, often not that accurate. Similar for the AA website.
