Hi didn't know where to write this. I got married in nov and need to change name on license. I can't find my counterpart so they are charging £20. However they are scrapping counterparts in June so I don't want to buy a new one for it to be destroyed ( as advised by dvla) in a couple months. If I wait is this against the law? Thank you

Makes no difference if you do it now - you'll get the photocard licence plus counterpart, along with a form saying counterparts are being scrapped from 8 June and will have no legal status, so should be destroyed after this date.
There is nothing that says you will have to apply for a new photocard licence in June.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. You do not NEED to change the name on your licence at all.
So wait as long as you like.0 -

If you want to use it as id for you in your married name then that's a different issue.
But as posted as far as having a licence in your maiden name is concerned (which was your original question - why ask it if you wanted it as ID in your married name?)0 -

It's my driving license so it's my id aswell. If that's not my name anymore then I can get in trouble.
There's no "different issue" I'm asking about the counterpart!!0 -

Well you then brought up using your licence as your ID.
When do you use your counterpart?
If you want to use your photocard as ID for your married name then you will have to change it.
But you have survived since November.0 -
Does the address on the licence match your current address if not it should do. I do not know about the name change.
But if you cannot afford the £20 to do things right can you really afford to be in charge of a car?0
