Re,NS&I numbers ?

hi Guys, having registered for NS&I ,for 65+ bonds a couple of days ago, they set it up with password etc, and have taken my £10k out of bank today, fine. However, trying to log in, they ask for my surname and Ns,I number, which they say they have given me? When registering . Does this come via post ?

Yes. When I helped my parents apply, I couldn't find a way to apply without first getting a password and NS&I number.
Both the password and NS&I number came in the post separately for obvious reasons (about 10 days apart)

Hi Crag, thanks for reply. Most unusual, just had post, and Nsi want ID from me , even though I have other stuff with them! Posted utility bill and tax code, but, NO, Nsi number with it ! Wonder how they accepted my application and my wife's without NSi number ? I only wanted it to login, to see what the progress is ?

They accept your application but can cancel and return your money, should there be a problem with eligibility.

Do check your paperwork as both mine and my husband's contained spelling errors. His was a simple case of adjacent keys being typed, but mine was a weird spelling of a fairly common forename.

To put this right I had to call them, be transferred to security to register my permanent password, then be sent back to the original office to have the spelling error corrected.

thanks, already submitted both applications, but, didn't,t put wife's nat ins number on it, so expect hers to come back! are you saying check their paperwork ? When it returns. cannot understand why they need proof when already on their database and have several long term index linked bonds with them! That,s the Gov !!!!

If you get anything like I got, beware. I had a cash ISA many moons ago, and got registered to deal with these online. I transferred it 2006 or so.

Then they kept encouraging me to deal with my handful of Premium Bonds online so I registered for that. They sent me an NS&I number but no password. I filled in a lost password form, but they ignored it.

So I couldn't get the granny bonds online. I had to do it by phone. They needed a NS&I number. I gave them my Premium Bond Holder's number. But I couldn't give them a password. She told me she couldn't do anything because they must put in two letters of the password to carry on. Several guesses later and we were through! I got my granny bonds, together with a new NS&I number. But no password of course.

As you say, this is government efficiency.

If you have other stuff with them then you should have a NS&I number (I would have thought).
With that and the password they sent you, can you still not log in?

I,ve looked, and no Nsi number anywhere, 15 years + I,ve held Index linked bonds !
I set my own password , secure Q and A,s ,etc the other day when applying for my 65+ bonds, for me and myself , it took ages ,that,s why I wondered if they will send my Nsi number through the post to go with the password they asked me to choose, which I,ve kept ?
strange how they chose your password for you ?
  • You may have become a customer 15+ years ago but that does not mean they are not entitled to examine your idenitity now. The world has moved on a lot since then.

This probably means there is not enough about you out there in the electronic world that gives them enough assurance, so they have to bother you for papers. Of course the data they are using for this has to be accurate also.

Good luck with the NS&I number. Dont ever lose it or you have to WRITE to them to request a replacement. Yet they will send you a replacement password with a phone call. Crazy to deal with.

The N S and I number comes by post separately from the password. I registered for online access for my index linked savings certificates a few months ago and it totally confused me as they sent me my password first and it was almost two weeks before my registration number arrived.
