Funny thing, I bought a Dell for OH, she started to have problems like this after 6 years . I got same model a year later and mine seems to be going down same route.
Thanks about the bit the workaround for Panda.

I've got a laptop to clean up for a friend with Panda installed. Thank goodness that I hadn't started working on it, so it wasn't connected to my wifi, otherwise I wouldn't be a happy bunny right now. Only reason I hadn't started on it, was because some very kind person dumped 4 puppies on my doorstep, and I've been a bit preoccupied. :(
  • you might be lucky in that the corrupted file was not downloaded whilst puppy sitting

:rotfl: Great ideas for names, but I'm not keeping them! Managed to get two homed, I'm keeping one, so one still to go.

Yes, looks like I've been lucky, laptop started up fine. I've made sure that internet is disconnected until I get a chance to look at it properly. Will hopefully get started on it later today, when I can get a bit of peace and quiet.
