I've just separated from my husband and he has recently cancelled the plusnet account which ends on 16th March. I've tried to get BT Infinity but BT are telling me I need a mac. PlusNet refuse to speak to me because I'm not the account holder and have told my husband a mac isn't needed as BT can just take over the service when the plusnet service ends. I've explained this to BT but they still insist I need a mac. I'm completely confused, can anyone help?

If your husband has cancelled the plusnet account then you don't need a MAC as you aren't taking over a service, you are starting a new service. BT should be able to order a new line with a new broadband service.
If you are trying to place an order with BT to take over the existing telephone number then they will need a MAC to take over the broadband but the service you are taking over has to be active. If there is a cancellation in place then BT wont be able to take over the service.
Once cancelled, BT can usually get a number back and reprovide it but it can take around 14 days to get things set up. This means you could be without a Broadband band service for 2 weeks or more.
Were you trying to keep your existing telephone number?0 -
As above, a MAC is only for migrating broadband on the same number. Sounds as if you will be getting a new number, so not applicable.
But why not get your FTTC from Plusnet? Same infrastructure,, invariably cheaper, better CS.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
