Thomson holiday unwanted extras.

Hi, this is my first post on a forum and I would like some advice....
On going in to my local travel agent to pay the remainder of my family holiday (earlier than I needed to), I asked if they could remove the 5kg top up baggage from 3 of the 5 cases. They contacted Thomson who said they were unable to do this and the admin costs would mean I would not get any money anyway! I explained that I am not asking for a refund as I have not paid the final balance yet, I would just like an amended balance and that should I wish to add extras at a later date, they would be more than happy to do this! They said that it is non refundable at the time of booking, and it is always a 100% loss, and I should look at the terms and conditions. I have done this and cannot find anything stating that the baggage allowance is non refundable.
Can anyone give me any helpful advice please?!

A fixed baggage allowance is usually part of a package holiday price.

There's usually nothing that says it is refundable.

FNL is on about 'Extra' Kgs purchased, not the Fixed Baggage Allowance. It's less expensive to purchase extras when you book, rather than later on.

There's something in the T&Cs about an admin charge being applied for changing 'any' part of the booking.

Why did you book the extra kg's if you don't think you will use it?

We all have stuff we bought but have never used or worn. People buy goods and services thinking they'll need them, but in the event don't need them, simple.

Travel Agents (TA) will try and sell 'Extras' as they probably get commission, so you're on the spot. Either buy it when booking at a 'reduced' rate, buy it later at a higher rate, or don't buy it at all.
  • Extras are usually non refundable anyway, which is what in effect they are saying. If they take it off your booking you will incur an admin charge which will offset the refund. Better to keep it on the booking.

If someone claimed that in their entire life they have never, ever purchased something they didn't need - I'd feel quite confident calling them a flat-out liar.

If you are going to jump in and start calling people liars at least have the good grace and common courtesy to read the posts first.

A rather pedantic point, which I can probably match with even more pedantry.

Do you use every single minute on your mobile/landline contracts? Do you watch every single TV channel? Do you pay a standing charge for water/electricity/gas yet leave the house empty for a day? I'm sure even those on their highest high-horse have something trivial like that.

And for the record, I wouldn't have replied at all if you weren't so unnecessarily spiteful.
