I am on VM for broadband. Last year I think, I asked them to take the TV package off, I got a reduction but over the year the price has crept up. They have put the price up (just paid the second month) and they don't seem to have removed the TV part.
I only want broadband as I'm not using the TV, I get more channels on Freeview. Plusnet unlimited broadband seems to be a good deal but is it? Are there any things that they are not saying?
I'm on a limited budget and am so scared of ending up with something that costs me more. I'm hopeless at arguing - couldn't argue my way out of a paper bag and dread phoning them - is there any other way to cancel?
Thanks for any advice.

the chances are that when you altered your package they signed you up to a new contract , 12mths , 18mths whatever
ring them and check , because cancelling might cost you more than your proposed savings0 -
VM broadband can be cable or regular ADSL broadband, which do you have?
Cable broadband does not require a telephone line connection but from what I have seen, not having a phone line doesn't really save anything on VM.
Plusnet is ADSL or fibre and does require a telephone line which you will have to take into account. That can be about £16 or so.
If you switch to using ADSL from cable then your phone line quality will dictate the speed that you get. For a long phone line you could have very poor speeds. Plusnet upload speeds are pretty crap as well so any uploading will be very slow.0 -
With Virgin you always pay a bundle price. So often broadband plus a phone line is the same price as broadband on its own. Go to Plusnet's website, see what speed you can get and then go to a comparison site to see which company has the best deal. Also sign up for a cashback site like Quidco as often companies give you cash for signing up.0

As above, downgrading/altering your bundle will have commenced you on a new minimum term, so you need to establish when that change took place, and whether you are now out of minimum term again.
You will need a BT-based line provisioning or reconnecting to get any ADSL services-there are no other cable providers than VM.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate your time, seems I need to be brave and ring them0

Go to TopCashBack as well as QuidCo to compare cashback.
Some/many of the broadband companies customer service can leave a lot to be desired from what I have read! Buyer beware springs to mind.0 -
You don't have to ring them at all. Look in your online account/bills and establish when you changed the package. If less than a year then you cannot move away unless you pay the full ETC.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
