The thing is that I did not choose or agree to join Amazon Prime. There was no obvious visible sign on the purchase pages I was presented with that I would be signed up to Amazon Prime. I was warned only that I was joining "Subscribe and Save", and that there would be NO FEES for doing so.
Yet I was signed up for Amazon Prime, for which there are monthly fees, and having looked back at the emails received from Amazon because of my joining "Subscribe and Save" I see that there is absolutely no waring there that I had been signed up to start paying £7.99 a month from 5 July. That's a scam.0 -
Ive just gone through an order to see if theres anything that mightve indicated youd be signed up to prime.
Ive chosen a generic subscribe and save product without knowing the one you ordered. On the delivery options page there is several options for delivery one includes the prime option which says "FREE One-Day Delivery with a free trial participation with (amazon prime logo)"
Its this option that would sign you up to prime. I also noticed that the option automatically selected the paying option which isnt the prime trial.
Obviously things mightve been different for you as you processed the order, but i can clearly see a way of you inadvertently subscribing to something which it does detail, all be it probably not as clear as we would all hope. So no, i dont believe it is a scam.
How many scammers do you know who are so willing to give youa free trial and a refund of any fees paid? The very fact youve managed to deal with this without being charged, without having to complain, without having to do anything other than click a button saying 'unsubscribe' surely suggest were not in scam territory.
Amazon have pretty good customer service, give them a call and ask how they signed you up to prime without your permission or knowledge. Im absolutely certain they can direct you to what will be a contractual agreement with yourself and them where the appropriate box was ticked.0 -

Subscribe and save is seperate from prime (although prime bring extra benfits to it).
You will have signed up to prime by selecting one day delivery either on this or at another time. It's what everybody does.0 -
I read numerous messages regarding Amazon Prime charges. I was double charges for 22 months for Amazon music, when I didn't have Amazon Music (both payments had same reference "Amazon", but either end of the month hence being overlooked when checking bank account). I called Amazon and spoke with 2 separate reps, one offered me 12 months money back without any question as it was automatically added and renewed, the other offered the last 6 months as this was all their "policy allowed". Is there any way I can get all of the money back, as I am £80 out of pocket, and who knows how many people have been caught out like this.0

I downloaded a free app for my Fire Stick on Sunday - with no delivery options whatsoever, so I didn't inadvertently select One Day Delivery of course. So I was quite surprised to receive an email from Amazon on Monday welcoming me to Prime.
It is pretty obvious that they are signing people up for a month's free trial at random which is not something I am at all happy with, whether or not it is easy to cancel.0 -
The same thing happened to me.... then I discovered a family member had clicked on one of the inviting movie adverts on the main screen of the Fire Stick which immediately signed up for the free trial of Prime and purchased the video! I will give Amazon their due, though, when I got in touch with them (via the chat option on the website) they immediately cancelled Prime for me and refunded the accidental purchases.
This sort of thing though is one of the reasons I gave away the Fire Stick and bought a proper TV box.0 -
Just wanted to add to this discussion.
I have amazon prime that I pay yearly. With my husband on my household so we can both use it.
This week my husband discovered he had prime too, that he didn't sign up for, it's been 20 months but we never noticed because whenever I've seen the 7.99 charge I just assumed hed bought something from Amazon.... it just didn't occur to me that it was a pattern going out every month.
Anyway, we got on live chat this week and explained it and that he never signed up and was just on my household account.
They instantly said they'd refund 7.99 ..... I said it had been longer than that so looked back over the bank records and told them its 20 months. They said they could only refund 10, I simply said no I want it all, and they refunded the full 20 months.
It was really easy to do and sorted out very quickly.
I also asked how it could have happened in the first place but the only explanation they could give was that it was an error0 -
I am interested in your story. I joined Prime UK back in 2009 and was never charged as I thought because of my early repose to the offer, I would be a lifetime member. Then when Amazon Premium (France) emailed to say they could not take the payment this month (purse stolen and cards cancelled) I then looked back into old bank statements to see UK had charging me in since 2014 ! Yes, I know, why did we not notice the debit then....
Unfortunately I cannot prove my use of Prime for 10 years as the invoices on emails only show £0 for delivery, not specifically Prime.
