strike on friday the 13th

I know some people are put off going out to work or doing their shopping etc on this day but to go out on strike I think is taking it a bit far :p

Good luck to everyone that relies on buses and trains etc

  • Strike my !!!!!..... it's just an additional holiday for them as they are probably already off Monday & Tuesday so heck, lets have a nice long Weekend.

When 80% (i.e the hardcore) of 40% of a group (i.e. therefore only about 32% overall) vote on a strike action, how can that be classified as a majority??? That means 68% DIDN'T Vote for Strike Action !!!! Go Figure....

I listened to that idiot Bumper Graham on Nolan yesterday and he sure was evasive on the figures!!!

Is the strike not a bit pointless now as the shinners have pulled the plug on the Welfare Reform Bill and Sammy says there will be no money now to fund the Civil Service voluntary redundancy scheme?

Everyone has the right to strike with union backing, everyone had a voting paper sent to their homes. Of those that bothered to return a vote (very small number IMHO) the majority voted for strike action, simples :o

Unison, Unite and NIPSA are the 3 main (and largest) unions involved on Friday and therefore the CS, health service, bus/train drivers and most council staff will be on strike, as well as some teachers.

Personally I don't think this will achieve any of their aims and they know that themselves, but it may force the powers that be to rethink future cuts which are coming.
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

I agree, yes they do have the right to strike, HOWEVER..... (as is my opinion on political voting too which has the same issues) if a vote is taken and THE MAJORITY can't be bothered their backsides to vote, then the minority that do vote should not be allowed to dictate the outcome...... I think all voting be it Political or Unions should be Mandatory.... If you don't vote you loose your vote the next time........ Why should the Minority hold the Majority to ransom...... If, even as close to, everyone votes then the outcome would be a more legitimate one and I would then Not have a problem with that as it would be a real majority ruling... I know quite a few who do not want to strike but didn't bother their backsides to vote.... (I'm not impressed with this attitude)......

    edit....
I also HATE it when people say they are on strike but then don't bother their behinds turning up at the picket lines or whatever to air their views and stand with fellow strikers... I'll bet the majority just use it as another paid days holiday!!!

    Totally agree

Except for the paid holiday part, strikers lose a days pay, as they should, Unite pay strikers £30 each from union funds if you claim, I'm unsure if Unison do the same, NIPSA give you nowt but a pat on the back for being a comrade :o

As for whether I will or will not be on strike I am very much undecided at present:o My union do nothing for me yet I still pay a monthly subscription, I have changed unions in the past from one to the other to get more support but one is as bad as the other :(

Can I afford to lose a days pay ? NO

Because perhaps we shouldn't be allowing the apathetic to make the decisions?

Also, I'm apparently missing the part were people get paid to go on strike. Do you even know what you're ranting about anymore?

In fairness, I've never been a member of a union so wouldn't know this either.
