My mum is the best

I used a similar line last year lol
I've really struggled with the comps too, especially ones which ask for a pic of you with your mum I don't have pics of me with my mum so I've entered a pic of me with my nan. It's the same on fathers day I base my answers on my granddad. Although I have a relationship of sorts with my parents I have a much stronger relationship with my grandparents.
The sob stories are driving me potty. I read one about someones dad being murdered the other day...
wow! glad I didn't get to read that one...0 -
Yeah I'm fed up with them. - Put 3 words to describe your mum.
What am I supposed to put?
Dead And Buried?:(:(

I clicked on something by mistake once (it didn't mention, or seem related to, Father's Day) and they caught me on a bad day and I had only recently woken up (I wasn't comping, I was just checking regular emails) so while not an excuse, I do feel bad for "snapping" at them - it said something like "Dad's don't fit in boxes" (in a big bold stand alone title) then underneath went on about buying the perfect type of gift for your "type" of Dad, so I wrote "well actually my Dad does fit in a box, he's in a coffin" - I know it was a stupid thing to say, and I was sort of joking (forgetting of course that most people don't have a slightly morbid sense of humour and it's hard to tell the tone of something read online). The company wrote me an email apologising for any offence and that they would choose their words more carefully in the future - I felt terrible about it, so I'll definitely be steering well clear of any Father's Day comps!
My mum, on the other hand, is lovely (although I can't "tell us why she perfect" because she ain't, she's human!) and I have entered a few Mother's Day comps, but I won't post on any that seem to require a competitive sob story - one, I'm sure my mum doesn't want her life story on Twitter/Facebook and two, it seems wrong to do so as it's no-one business but ours (no photos either, my mum's camera shy!)0 -
well this has turned into a cheery topic0

I agree, it's not a pleasant topic. Whilst I love my mum, she is not super special (well, to me she is), she is alive and well, has had a happy marriage to my dad, has not faced any hardships and is in good health. I entered a FB comp with words to that effect and after I had pressed 'post' I saw the post above me was about a brave amputee. I am not hard hearted but it feels like it is 'unfair' to compete when I just have a normal mother, but surely my 'normal' mum deserves to be recognised as much as anyone else's mum. I'm guessing I won't win that FB comp with such an honest answer and have avoided all that ask 'what makes your mum special' since. I don't see why I should have to justify my mum's existence. She has done a great job, end of story. *rant over* :-)
Oh, one other thing, yes I agree that this kind of comp for mums and dads is pretty insensitive. It is a massive generalisation to think that everyone has a good relationship with their parents and also to assume that their loved ones are still here, I can imagine that actually mothers/fathers day can be very hard/emotional for a lot of people.0 -
i know what u mean, i hate these kinds of soppy comps:heart2::heart2::heart2::heart2::heart2:0

it's sad when you don't like your mother or she does not like you but you cannot pick your family sadly, I just write a little poem short ones but I can't compete with sob stories nor would I wish to. I loved my mother in law but lost my mum when I was 18 but I could never use that for a competition no matter how much I wanted the prize. just write a little poem or rhyme works as good as any other thing even if you don't like your mother/dad ect2016 Jan Wins: 9ct white Gold Diamond Necklace £530.00, Doro Easy phone. Three words to describe your mum:
'She's my mum'
My mum doesn't have cancer, but if she did, I think she would be upset and horrified if I broadcast to the world via social media that she had just to win her a Mother's Day gift!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0
