why not try a 2.5 in an enclosure , I have one connected to a raspberry pi , running xbmc , and Pis are fairly weak on USB power
although not set in stone , I bet the info book is covering its backside in case of claims by muppets with big 3.5 drives
although I don,t think they do 3.5 enclosures without power *
*edit , one in a box here , it has 2 usb wires (split) to try to get more power
the more I think about it , a modern 2.5 drive with a good enclosure should be ok if not , just pick up a powered usb hub0 -

Because if I buy an enclosure and it doesn't work I've wasted money.
I'd rather get something first time I know will work as opposed to assuming something may work and wasting cash if it doesn't.Sigless0 -
well it will work using a powered usb hub , if you don,t go that way , several members have now shown you links on amazon ,
don,t forget to order a 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor at the same time0 -
Thanks to all, have actually just had a chat with someone who has the box and they've confirmed 2.5" drives work absolutely fine so you're right, the manufacturer was just covering themselves.Sigless0
