Thanks mimi, just saw your post. No union at work as far as I know, just HR but they can be as bad as the management. I think he needs to get out of there so we are on lookout for something else for him. He goes to college in the evenings so has enough on his plate without them making him more stressed. I thought the days of bullying bosses were long gone :( They know he has UC and he has a better sickness record than any member of staff there as he insists on just working through any pain and discomfort. He may as well not bother though as it's not appreciated and makes him worse in the long run. Fingers crossed he finds another job soon x

    Good afternoon all

Hi Strewth, I haven't had time to read back yet but would just like to let you know that UC is a recognized illness that could count under the DDA (disability discrimination act).
If I had an employee with this then my occupational health nurse would be advising reasonable adjustments to allow the employee to keep working. This could be reduced duties, time off to attend medical appointments (though they can be unpaid), reduced hours, lenient application of the attendance policy, providing extra equipment etc.

There is no specific obligation on the employer to provide these things if their business cannot sustain it, but they must have considered it and have a sound business reason for not providing reasonable adjustments.

Tribunals take a dim view of employers riding roughshod over employees these days.

Let me know if you need specific guidance and I will do my best to help. Sorry if I haven't addressed any particular concern but I won't get proper chance to read back until later :)

Why on earth would you put a tv bracket on the wall 2 weeks before you move ?

Does seem a bit silly, and it is really quite easy to trace where the wires go too :o

The Kinnerton "chocolate" ? bleurgh, but worth it for 8p filler. I'd be careful though. The Asda chocs that went to 5p are still available in 2 of my local stores (loads on shelf) but don't appear on apg so useless as a filler. I reckon this 8p choc will disappear soon too if they are getting rid.

The giant rainbow button 5p chocolate appears on the apg for me, comes back n/a
