I want to transfer the contents of my desktop PC's documents file, including lots of photos, to another computer.
It's been suggested I use a flash drive as a 'ferry'. My problem is that I don't know what capacity drive to obtain. Can anyone tell me how to find out, please?

light one item up , then press ctl +A and they will all light up , right click and go to properties , this will give you the total files size , buy a USB big enough to copy all or do it in batches0

Buy a USB hard drive that is at least as big as the hard drive on your compuer, use that to transfer your files in one go then use it for backing up your data from the new computer.0

or simply connect both computer via there Ethernet/wifi conections and send the files via the router.
regarding the OPs question , I have explained how to determine the size of drive needed
not suggested that they waste money on a hard drive same as there old one , the OP is not copying there windows folder or there programme files , JUST there docys , andd piccis0 -
If they are on the same network and they are both Windows 7 or later, copy them using homegroups, or use file sharing if they aren't0

As above, just plug both computers into your router and copy the files directly over the network.

It sounds like you haven't got a back up. You should maybe sort this out first before you go and mess everything up.0 -
The methods suggested above are good but I often find there's some problem with finding the other PC or there's a file permission issue etc.
I find the simplest is to use TeamViewer (it's free and the most popular way to get from one PC to another, get it from teamviewer.com). Install on both computers and use their File Transfer function to copy however much data you want.0 -
Oh forgot, other good thing about my method other than it being free
is that you can do it over the internet, so the computers don't have to be in the same place

But it's not a waste of money as the OP (and everyone) should be backing up their disk to an external source anyway.0 -
