Not allowed to park outside own home?!
Hey guys,
So my partner got a parking ticket this morning from the council. He lives in a block of privatley owned apartments and parked his van on the side road which they sit on. This is really annoying because he isn't allowed to park out the back or out the front of his own home because its a van and not a car. We don't understand where he is supposed to park?! The only signage is a white P on a blue back ground with a car underneath it which as I understand it means motor vehicles are permitted to park there with no restrictions. Isn't a van a motor vehicle?! He is a plumber so his vehicle is his work van and livelyhood. Has he got grounds to contend or will he have to pay? The other annoying thing is there was a motor cycle parked out there which didn't get ticketed - surely if the sign strictly means cars only the motor cycle should have been done as well as there isn't a sign to say they are permitted to park there. There was also a van that had windows instead of panels and back seats (like a private mini bus) which DID get a ticket - but again, isn't that classed as a motor vehicle and so shouldn't have got one?! I guess what I'm trying to say is its not clear as to who can park there and who cant and its not understood why the council feel its necessary to not allows vans to park outside privately owned apartments?!

You need to provide more info. You say it's a council (or local authority) issued ticket so can you give us the contravention (as stated) and code number?PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

normally speaking there is a vehicle weight sign , not one just showing a car , I think you will have to challenge this to get more clarification0

Probably more to it than this.0

any signage indicating what can and cannot park? if this is a prviate lanlord, are there any parking guidelines on the tenancy agreement?0

The roads belong to the council, not the apartment owners.
Some areas have restrictions on parking commercial vehicles.0 -
agreed , should be moved to parking forum0

by denoting a weight limitation , not a default picture of a car , if your car is not blue like in the picture , do you get a ticket as well
name of counsil , and offence code please ,0 -
Also, Check if the area is a controlled parking zone (cpz).0

When i bought my first terrace house there were yellow lines outside but i thought i'll be out on my way to work before the traffic wardens start, and by the time i get home of a night the wardens will be finished. Wrong, i came out one morning to find a ticket on the screen. I think it was £6 all those years ago.
So i started parking in the next street where there were no restrictions. I parked up one Saturday and nevver left the house until going to work on Monday morning, but no car where i left it. I phoned the Police and they asked ....... Is it a white one ? I thought great they've found it, but they'd found it after it had been stolen and dumped then set on fire on the Saturday night. They'd found it on the Saturday but nobody had been to tell me, then they say if i didn't shift it soon i'd get charged if they had to move it.
After that i put my house up for sale and the most important thing i wanted in my new house was a path to park on.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Its a Blackpool borough council PCN and the contravention is 'PARKED IN A PARKING PLACE OR AREA NOT' (it finishes after 'not' which I don't get) and the code is 23. There is only the P sign with a car underneath - nothing else stating what can or cannot be parked and Its not a controlled parking area0
