Anyone travelled from NY to Nashville by car?

Before we're too old and decrepit to handle a long distance 3 week holiday in the states, we've booked the flights for this October.
Arriving in New York and ending up 17 days later in Nashville (partner is music daft) we'd like to know if you have any suggestions on places and things to see as we drive along.
Thanks y'all.

Nope. But do report back. I might want to nick all your ideas!0

The direct route is only 886 miles so there's plenty of scope for alternative routes in 17 days. I'd be inclined to travel down the coast, stopping off in Philly and Washington and places like Williamsburg, perhaps even go as far south as Charleston, then cut back inland via Atlanta to Nashville.0

I haven't done New York City to Nashville, but I have done Washington DC to just south of Nashville (the northern terminus of the Natchez Trace, to be precise).
If you want a great combination of scenery and pioneer history then I'd very highly recommend doing at least part of the combination of National Park Service areas along the spine of the Appalachian Mountains:
Shenandoah National Park (Virginia)

Blue Ridge Parkway (Virginia and North Carolina)

Great Smoky Mountains National Park (North Carolina and Tennessee)

Those are not fast roads, they're roads to amble along slowly with frequent stops."Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0 -
be a terrible shame for a music lover not to go on to Memphis then down Highway 61 to New Orleans, or at least part of that route. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0

what? as agrinnall said, it's roughly 50 miles per day - you could bicycle it and still have time to spare. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Not exactly by car but I flew from New York to Atlanta and then took the greyhound bus from Atlanta to Nashville. The scenery was lovely.
I loved Nashville! What month will you go and it could get too hot during the summer.

Jack Daniels factory in Lynchburg may not be in the route from NY to Nashville but it is not that far from Nashville.
