smelly shoes

Hi,
I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place or not. Sorry if it's not.
In our house we have 3 teenage boys. They all keep their shoes on a large wooden rack in the conservatory. Problem is, at least one of them has shoes that absolutely stink!! You open the conservatory door and the smell hits you!!! It's winter now and it's like this, were dreading summer.
I've tried spraying febreze on the shoes, that works for about 10 mins. I've tried leaving 3 air fresheners underneath and next to the rack, that seems to have no effect at all.
I've also tried plug-ins in the past, but they were also useless at masking the smell and when we had the fire brigade round to check our smoke alarms they told us that a lot of fires were caused by plug-ins. So don't want to use those again.
Has anybody come across this in the past and cured it? Or do you have any ideas we can try?
We'll try anything. All ideas gratefully received.

Is he repeatedly wearing the same shoes?
Can the shoes/trainers be washed?
Is his personal hygiene up to scratch?
Try here.

Too many pairs. We have 3 teenage boys each with about 15-20 pairs of shoes and trainers.
We've tried odor eaters, but they always loose them. That would be quite expensive to fit all shoes with these.
I forgot to put on my first post that we've also tried putting in a bag in the freezer, but that didn't seem to work.
Lots of the shoes can't be washed.
Gingernutty, thanks, one of the ideas is using baking soda. That seems easy and straight forward. I'll put some on my shopping list this week.I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea0 -
Def baking soda, my old work place I use to do 10 hr shifts and the shoes were strong, baking soda did the trick perfectly xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0

If you can get them to rub some tea-tree cream into their feet before they put their socks on in the mornings, then it can really help with stinky shoes. My younger brother's shoes were toxic but after a few weeks with the tea-tree cream, they smelt a million times fresher.0

You might find it's just one pair of trainers that are causing the problem. Marley's feet are not brilliant, but last year he had a pair of Nike trainers that absolutely reeked to high heaven. He was doing nothing different from normal (wearing them daily!) but they were incredibly offensive compared to previous Nike trainers he'd bought. Once we realised, I took him shopping very quickly!:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I discovered 30 yrs ago that I need deodorant on my feet (AFTER daily WASHING!) not just for underarms you know!
Just make sure its completely dry before putting on tights or socks!
One of life's great life changing discoveries!

p.s. I use "Impulse" or even cheaper alternative on my feet...no sweat! lol:A Goddess :A0 -
How did boys end up with 15-20 pairs each?
Are they just hoarding old pairs and that's the problem? Locate the ones that stink and chuck in the bin.0 -
They usually smell when they have been wet. Have you tried putting them in the washing machine and drying them thoroughly? It may help.0
