What contactless payments have you made over £10 ?

Are you sure it's the transaction value that's causing the problem?Whenever I use my contactless credit card for something costing over about £10, it gets declined and I have to do chip and pin.
Another restriction on contactless cards is the number of consecutive contactless transactions that can be made before you have to do a chip and pin txn to reset the counter.
Could it be that every sixth txn is rejected?0 -
Regularly close to £20 in Aldi and Lidl with no problems.0

I am getting asked regularly to enter my pin as I'm using my contactless card instead of my Oyster card on the underground. If you make a lot of consecutive transactions, occasionally go to a cashpoint and put your pin in on a regular basis. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) this will help stop your card being refused, as you've entered your pin after a certain amount of transactions.
I'm doing it because I'm getting 1% cashback on contactless payments and hate when it asks me to put my pin in on Tesco purchases of about £15.0 -

For some reason, Visa and MasterCards count every single tap towards the consecutive limit (even though only the first 1 of the day is an authorisation with the bank) and the oyster reader only asks for the card to identity itself after the first tap. American Express cards don't seem to have this problem as far as I can tell.0 -
One of my credit cards never seems to work in one particular shop for contactless, so I always stick it in the bottom of the reader instead.0

I think the main problem is that Visa (in particular but MasterCard and Amex are just as guilty) has released so many updates to its contactless standard that some terminals end up encountering cards it doesn't really know what to do with.0 -
Regarding her not allowing you to then use the same card is an instruction of Payzone if they are using a Payzone system. Payzone's user book stipulates that If a transaction is declined the merchant should not allow the same card to be used again.
I think the 05 Maybe of relevance in the decline, although I can't find a list of decline codes publically available.0 -

Decline code is 05 is DO NOT HONOR or variations of. Its the first decline that isn't a referral or a retain card.0 -

Whenever I use my contactless credit card for something small, like a burger or coffee or such like it gets accepted immediately. Whenever I try to use it for something costing over about £10, it gets declined and I have to do chip and pin.
I just tried it again for something £12.99 at a local chemist, and the staff behind the counter gave me a receipt saying "Declined 05 NOT AUTHORISED" and then asked for an alternative method of payment. She wouldn't even let me use the same card.
Its beginning to seem like using contactless is making my checkout experience take longer and more embarrassing. I'm now inclined to only use it for purchases of £5 or less.
Is this really what the banks want?
Some places put a limit on a contactless transaction e.g £10 or £20. Morrisons is £20 but are raising to £30 once they have fully rolled it out.0
