Help me with my honeymoon

Hoping I don't get crucified for posting this but I need help with hotel cards.
I have saved up 180k AA points and my wife and I want to head to Hawaii. We're thinking of going around the end of August and need help navigating hotels.
We have some Marriott points 60-70k but they are a pain in the ... to use. Was thinking about opening up the 2 SPG cards and trying to use the points+$$ option for Maui.
:j
I've never been to Hawaii and I've only been playing the miles game for 2 years so I feel very much like a noob here.
To sum it up:
Is it worth it to open the 2 SPG amex cards?
Are there any better options out there that would help?

this thread is for reporting bargains
You would probably be better posting this on the Credit card board on Flyertalk0 -

Where are you based? I'd guess from your posts you are in the USA?
Certainly any cards with a bonus will clearly help. In the UK at least all the AmEx fees are refunded prorata if you cancel them mid term and so the points bonuses can work out fairly cheap.
If you had the Platinum Card then you could also get instant SPG Gold status, your less likely to get the free room upgrade with a points booking than cash but add it to a honeymoon etc and all increases your chances.0 -
I can't help with the points. We love Hawaii and I would recommend if you are going to Honolulu and staying in Waikiki to visit at least one other island to get a flavour of the real Hawaii.

The worst that anyone can say or do here falls a very long way short of crucifixion. If you fear that your post might not be appropriate, you might care to apologise for any inconvenience that others might feel rather than worrying about yourself.
Anyway, the best advice I can give you is to forget about Hawaii, which is vulgar and over-developed. If you want a memorable holiday, go to Cuba.0 -
That may not be quite so straightforward if InsideInsurance is correct with his guess that the OP is USA-based.Voyager2002 wrote: »If you want a memorable holiday, go to Cuba. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??
