Abbeys 8% for current customers ?

I too am a current Abbey customer and the recent advertising I saw on TV and in branch is for 10% for one year. I asked in branch how much my present account is paying: 2.5%, and I was told the 10% is definitely only "to hoik in new customers" as the Nationwide advertisement so graphically puts it!

The last straw came yesterday when Abbey sent me a letter beginning with the words: "As part of our continuing efforts to make our accounts as straighforward as possible...."

I 'e' mailed them immediately - no response!

My experience is that changing electricity/gas suppliers is simple and seamless - I've done it 6 or 7 times with never a problem (I avoid British Gas even if cheapest because of their appalling record for billing errors) however my one change of bank was less successful - the Abbey's "transfer adviser" considered her job done when all my sources of funds had been told of the change....once....and I was left to chase up those that needed telling more than once - when I eventually discovered they were still paying my old bank!

Despite this I feel the time to part from Abbey is drawing near - which bank is the best long term bet as I don't wish to keep changing?
