Abbeys 8% for current customers ?

I'm a current abbey customer, can i finagle the 8% on the current account do you think as i already have a bank account my salary goes into with them ?
I can transfer a direct debit from another bank (thus using their transfer service) if they'll let me do that but its not my salary. they seem to just hint about putting salary in but have no minimum requirement other than use transfer service as I read it ? Thanks for any advice.

yes, you can get an 8% account. they don't require any switching. just need to pay in 1k each month. i have a graduate account with them. needless to say that is now overdrawn to the max and the money is in my 8% account :j

    How do you do this?
    They told me NO!
We've banked with them for 20 years already - think we deserve it!

you can put 1k in one minute, take it out the other to qualify for the monthly input. which ever way possible. a standing order from a high interest account would be even better.

Like meme I wondered how you could persuade them to let you have the 8% offer on a current account when you already have a current account with Abbey. My reading of the website made me think it was "for new custsomers only" - at least "new" in that you didn't already have an Abbey current account.

I'd be very interested to hear if any Abbey current account holders have managed to wangle this - I've been with them for years and I too think we should have some sort of bonus for loyalty!

I think the key is how important it is to "transfer" salary over for me. as my salary already goes to an abbey bank account. I can transfer other things though. i couldn't see anything explictly on their site about you must pay in x a month though so i'm hoping if i start out transfering other stuff to open it at the bigger rate then i can move the salary over in a week or so.

It appears it is possible to gain the 8% when you already have an Abbey current account. I've just found this on the Abbey website as alternative to applying online:

    quote:

    Other ways to apply

If you would prefer not to apply online or, you already have an Abbey current account, you can either come in and see us or give us a ring.
    Apply by Phone

I cant actually find this quoted on their website do you have a link at all? Ive just rang them to apply for the 8% account and was told its for switching customers only. I have been banking with Abbey for 19 years so not too happy with the measly 2.5%.

    Try this -
    http://www.abbey.co.uk/csgs/Satellite?c=GSDetalleProducto&cid=1127562794512&pagename=Abbey%2FGSDetalleProducto%2FGS_InfSolicitudProdDetal

near the foot of the page.

I got there by clicking on an Apply now hyperlink.

But they are right that it is for "switching customers". So you have to switch from another provider's current account when Abbey was a second current account.
