Quick question - Are Temp's entitled to bank holidays?

I seem to work on a strictly per hour basis** and was wondering if I would be paid bank holiday's?, I've been a Temp before but never really in the era of the all bank holiday's we've got coming up! (there wouldn't be the option to work either) so it hasn't come up for me before :o

**never attempted to use holiday in this assignment, any time taken so far has been unpaid, which is why I'm starting to think...

Thanks if anyone could answer, I'd be grateful, just trying to be prepared if it is bad news?

Youll get time off if you arent asked to work it. If you get paid or not depends on how much holiday pay you've accrued
  • No, you'll most likely have to claim holiday.

No one is "entitled" to bank holidays! A full time employee's entitlement is to 28 days holiday to be taken as the employer dictates. That may include working the BH or taking it as part of the 28 days as the employer pleases.

Part time employee's (including temps) accrue holiday pro rata except in a very limited number of situations where it is "rolled up" or in other words reflected as extra pay.
  • Thanks, there isn't any option to work.

Don't know about hours, hopefully I'll have creeped up to over 300 hours worked since January if I keep working the maximum each week and am still here come good friday, of course! all things permitting

    Thanks for answering :)

What undervalued meant is that - quite literally - there is no legal entitlement to bank holidays for anyone, temps or employees, unless it's explicitly written into their contract!
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

At least - could be more if your employer's holiday allowance is above the legal minimum (admittedly that's probably unlikely for a temp job).

That right, tell that to all the NHS staff then.

    Thanks,

Edited the post, hate it when I forget one of the key words it was in my head when I started to type.
