Estate car for £2500?

Hi folks,
I'm looking to buy an estate car for around £2500.
It will be used as a family run around and also for my work to lug musical gear around, so it needs to be a reasonable sized boot.
I won't be doing a huge amount of miles, but there will be the occasional long trip.
Oh, and I'm 6'4", so leg room is important!
I've seen a couple of Saab 9-5's that I like the look of, both 2.2 TID Diesels, with around 115,000 on the clock.
I've heard all the horror stories about Saab's. Disaster waiting to happen? Or worth a punt? And if not what should I be looking for in that price range?
Any help gratefully appreciated!
Cheers

They are a good barge with comfortable seats and good load capacity. The 2.2tid although agricultural is much more reliable than the 1.9tid. Don't touch the 3.0tid that way lies madness.
The 2.2tid is chain cam so no belt changes.0 -
forgotmyname is going to say mondeo estate, others will say stay clear of vag group cos they're more expensive than other cars. Someone is going to post the obligatory volvo v70 plug.0

Dial Mercedes E Class estate into your Autotrader area search and be amazed at the bargains to be had on these big buses. Unless you want a lower mileage diesel, you'll have plenty of change from your budget too.0

If miles are lowish, look at petrols:
Audi A6
BMW 5 series
Skoda Octavia
Ford Mondeo
Volvo 850/V70
Or people movers. Lots of choice."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
What counts as low miles at this price/ age of vehicle? Of all the cars suggested there aren't many that are under 100,000 miles locally.0

I wouldn't have a problem buying anyone of these cars at this price range upto 140,000 miles provided it had full service history and in reasonable condition."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0

Outside shout here but Golf Estate SDI/TDI from the early mid 00's are excellent estate cars and have your typical VW reliability. I saw one just go for about £1000 52 reg with 80k on the clock, but it was an SDI so not very pacey.0

Don't know where abouts in the country you are in but here's a couple of possibles where my hard taxed cash would go:

the road tax is real high, its classed as a small van.
however some other cars have plenty of room, do some research b4 you buy, good luck“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

Kia sedona it's a big 2.9 diesel lump had one for a few years and I'm over 6 foot
felt very comfortable driving it . Although not an estate it's a 7 seater ppl carrier. The seats can be folded/ turned / removed to suit what you are carrying.just because you are paranoid doesnt mean to say they are not out to get you0
