If he comes highly recommended then that is the way to go, but the price isn't cheap at all.
why? is a mobile mechanic meant to be cheaper?
CV joint is not a nice repair to do mobile. For better access it's better to have the car on a ramp. If the car is so bad that it cant be driven to a garage then mobile repair is probably cheaper than getting it towed to a garage.
in any case mobile mechanic should be more expensive than a garage not less.0 -

It's a thing called overheads - If you think a mobile mechanic has anything like the overheads a garage has then there is nothing else to add.0 -

there is something called time. Agarage based mechanic can park clients vehciles on his/her propert and complete the jobs 1 by 1. They also have access to ramp, fast air tools etc which speeds up job.
Mobile mechanic has to travel to customer which is a cost to him/her. They need to travel say 30 minutes between jobs and the job has to be slower due to lack of tools which makes them more expensive.0 -
We are still talking about a 20 minute driveshaft swap? Mobile Mechanics don't have a fraction of the overheads of a garage, neither do sensible ones take on work that needs extensive equipment. but they do come to you and ultimately are more convenient for some.0

a light industrial unit, say arches rented from network rail really isnt expensive. £1200pcm shared between 3 mechanics. very small cost if you apportion i over all your jobs/
my garage based mechanic also does callout jobs for cars that wont start. mobile mechanics aren't necessarily all doing it full time.0 -
You really think that googling for the lowest cheap shed gives you a clue as to the overheads of running a garage, or any other serious bona fide business for that matter? Dream on.0
