Out of date vitamins

Could someone please advise me? I'd brought a bottle of liquid vitamin supplement for my gran. It's one of those one tiny bottles a day type, which turned out to be majorly out of date - 'best before' mid of last year. I'm ashamed to say I didn't notice and she has drank it. It's very costly, I do have the bottle and receipt. What are the customer's rights? She's frail and it was brought to help her to recover, but instead it has made her very nauseous.

what to do? Write a letter of complain or go to customer services of the supermarket in question? What should I expect - besides a refund?

I'm all for putting it in writing, but am working on a very tight deadline a.t.m, are there any good template letters for this issue out there?

thanks in advance.
