Hello .
Sorry I haven't been back here for a couple of days. Living Proof talking about pop man, bread van etc in the winter of '63, I don't remember them coming to us, as we had just moved to a ' New Town ' which was still under construction, even as we moved into a brand new council house, our road was unfinished and only the main road was tarmarked ! (sp) As my lovely mum is no longer with us to ask, and my dad was in work then and neither of us can remember. Dad only remembers having to walk about 4 miles to work and back because no transport of any kind could get through and everywhere around this area ( I haven't moved far ) is either up or down hill.:(
nanFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
My dad never had a car or even a bicycle, all his life he walked to work at the pit. And my mum never had a fridge or a phone in her life, dad got them both after she died. Sounds odd saying that now when this is so rare.0

Just this week I posted on FB about my memories of the block of local shops in our Cardiff suburb. In the Sixties we had a grocers, a butchers, a tobacconists/sweetshop/newsagents and a greengrocers.
Now the same block of shops is a convenience store, a hairdressers, a bike shop and an Indian takeaway. There was a cafe where the sweetshop once was, but they closed and the bike shop extended their premises and moved in. The Indian takeaway was once a dry-cleaners, built on at the end of the 60s.
Shopping in the 60s was quite different. 10 years ago the BBC asked for recollections and I duly contributed.
The winters 50 years ago were definitely colder. 63 and Dec 68 were horrendous, and this was in 'warm' South Wales. I'm 250 miles north now and we've barely had any snow this winter (touch wood).Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Well it's not winter any more mcculloch. We are 5 days into spring and it has certainly been spring like today.
Ginny came today to collect my spare pans and she brought me one of her lovely bags. I shall proudly take my knitting out in that. Thank You ginny.0 -
I've got one of Ginny's nice bags too, I keep my knitting in it beside my recliner0

We're back
Had a lovely couple of days exploring Lincoln, we now have our own car back, all mended, and the new boiler is up and running :j
DBrother is in hospital again, but DSIL says he's doing well and being very well looked-after, and the staff are lovely and are speaking English to him as much as possible, bless them.
I must say you've been very quiet on here while I've been away!0 -
Just shows you're one of the backbones of this thread ivyleaf.0

We spent the weekend on the boat and took 6yo DGD with us, she thoroughly enjoyed herself, we took the boat out of the marina and along the cut, is was sunny but very windy, there are a couple of pics on my blog.
From henceforth my L&M will be known as Captain Hot Stuff, he lit the stove and for a few glorious moments the boat was almost warm at almost 12deg, but them my beloved was almost overcome with heatstroke and all the doors and windows were thrown open!Chin up, Titus out.0 -

Oh Hester I hope you don't have the same issues as me and hubs. He has hot and cold sweats due to his meds so the car is either a sauna or a fridge and that can change in minutes  We are ok at home as he is mostly in bed but when we go out its enough to make me scream, I keep a blanket close.
Maggie it was fab to meet you and I am loving my shiny pans. I passed the biggest onto DS for his veggie curries and scrubbed my old 2 up and took them to a Cs today. It had made life so much easier as I only had 2 tiny pans, one big and a pressure cooker - nothing in between. Those bags are limited editiononly the best people have them.
Having been getting rid of stuff for Lent - supposed to be 40 items in 40 days but am way ahead of 40. I have been trying very hard and finally seeing a difference. Had a visit to the tip today and disposed of a load of junk from the shed and garden as well as the house. I came home to find a bin bag half full of rubbish sat on my bed :mad:We only have tiny grey bins now for general waste and its nerve wracking trying to keep the rubbish down.
Loving the sunshine and have dried tons of washing.
Loving the subshineClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0
