Thanks you , maybe I am not going mad then , :D

Long week and December seams to be going on forever ....
Had my mri last week , the machine itself doesn't worry me , think I was cooked for about 40 mins lol , although sure I had some kind of reaction to the injection this time as felt absolutely ill for the next few days , hasn't happened before ,but carnt put it down to anything else .
Don't find out any results till the 12th Jan ... Hey ho

Otherwise dh and youngest kids are all coughing and spluttering, they finish school on Friday .
Dearest grandchild is fantastic, she is now 2 1/2 ... absolutely obsessed with dragons , tells wonderful storeys about going dragon chasing and all her pet ones . Dh will take her out in the jeep , so she is high up and can find them in the sky , even the teenage boy child joins in ....
And the silly dog hasn't ate any more chocolate , ....cat food yes ,bird food yes , ...maybe she's a bit confused :rotfl:

Right must go and sort stuff for school , dd is making rocky road tomorrow, there is enough chocolate there to cause a major sugar meltdown lol

I am finding "Christmassy" almost impossible with the terrible things happening to those poor folks in Aleppo and other places, and the lack of compassion for those who have escaped .....
And then all those at home with their troubles of homelessness and hopelessness.
We have a table decoration and some lights, we are making presents and getting together the family in the UK . It's very low key....with those who would like going to church and lots of walking and counting our blessings.
One of my children will not be there as he works with the homeless at Christmas and another comes at New Year as she facilitates a non religious get together for lonely foreign students!
I loved it when they were little with tree and garlands and singing.....but there has never been enough money for excess.
We always donate what we can to the Salvation Army, who came to our door when we had 4 children under 7, husband working abroad and so little money that the village shop saved the out of date cans for us....the SA provided two hampers of food and a small present for each child, but also came in and sat and drank tea and played with the children when I was so tired. I dont know who tipped them off, but I am still so grateful.....
Things got better in time, the 6 children are getting on but some struggle to find work and DH and I are abroad as that's where the work he does is.....and money is tight.....but we are safe and warm....and so many are not .

Um.....a bit of a going on......I'll disappear into lurkdom for a while.

Thank you for this post tired trophy. Lots of food for thought.

Lovely post Tired Tophy and everyone else

I have solved the cards problem by not sending any. A post on FB to warn folks, a donation to the Syria appeal and Yemen famine relief and job's a goodun.

OH and i decided that we don't really want anything for christmas, (it is my birthday also this week which makes life difficult for everyone else). I am having a leather jacket for that. i shall by OH something that WE want for the garden - although even that is too heavy to take where we are going for xmas so he will get a photo of it to unwrap :T I made a donation to a charity in South Africa that is close to my heart as my own christmas pressie.

SIL and MIL with a niece and a nephew [STRIKE]have imposed themselves[/STRIKE] are coming to us for christmas, SIL said she would help with the arrangements, but i don't trust her. So i have sorted it all.

When the elderlies have passed and the kids are doing their own thing, OH and i will go abroad for xmas and New year, i think (Sorry, Mar, i detest NYE with a passion - all that forced jollity and Happy New Year and then you wake up to the same old !!!!!...:) )
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Mar - I prefer NYE too - maybe because I had a Scots grandmother who insisted on first footing - a tradition I still try to hold up!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

I've got a piece of coal that's over 50 years old (and half the size it used to be!) that my dad used to use for first-footing with a bottle of whisky, as a Geordie he always did it for us, DS1 used to do my house before he moved away and DH is a Scot so he now does the first footing here.

I don't think we really celebrate either. We have decorations and we have a Christmas dinner with which we may have a glass of wine with.

We ignore New Year all together.

We don't do anything for NYE now, but I remember one NYE a few years after we came to live here; we heard some neighbours in the street shouting "Happy New Year!", so nearly everyone else did the same, and the lady across the road brought out a packet of sparklers and handed them round :D and we all waved our sparklers around while watching other people's fireworks. Happy times!

Still can't get into the spirit of Christmas at the moment, hopefully this weekend.

Kitchen still not finished, the builders are working flat out and most of it is in, including the flooring, just the fiddly bits to do like architrave around the doors, etc. The sink and hob have been in, then disappeared again so they can oil the worktops.

I can remember putting stones in a tumbler after a school trip to Swanage where we collected various pebbles and then made them into jewellery - the amount of glue used to fix the stones to the chains was amazing!
  • ..and I shall be interested to hear how your new kitchen works out for you Camelot. Do share - come the time.

Still planning mine. A friend of mine had one recently. She's only just finished it and is upset that she made a major mistake in its layout. Hence I'm doing lots of research to make sure I don't.

Very very exact specifications coming up - type of worktop/type of worktop edge/depth of worktop/how far out worktop is to come from the units/etc/etc. I'm trying to work out and specify literally every last little detail - in the hopes I don't make mistakes and the workmen do it exactly right.
