Calling all you expert gardeners out there....I have some cauliflower plants in the garden, the leaves are about 30cm tall. When do the white curds start to appear, and do I have to do anything special with the plants? (Apart from make a vat of cheese sauce!)

:j:j IT JUST RAINED!! Well only briefly, and it didn't cool things down much, but the air feels less humid. And I don't need to water the allotment :D

Good grief it's been warm here! DD and I went to the Gardening Scotland show - Chelsea it isn't but it was quite good all the same. DD thought I was quite sad as my favourite part was the vegetable gardens!

A lot cooler over in the East this morning but warmer than ever over here in the West. I put washing out at 5pm and it was dry by 5.30!

Good luck with your toy cull monna, just remember to leave some.

Cauliflowers need to grow into large plants to get decent curds. They need space, protection from various bugs, slugs and white butterflies, feeding and regular watering. If you are sucessful, then nothing beats homegrown, but they can be disappointing. I succeed about every other year, and then have too many all at once!

Fingers crossed - I tried growing some and "things" got to them. I shall probably have another go at some point - but with some sort of protective "cover" on them next time.

Not just for cauliflower cheese (though that's something I like myself). I've also been using them recently for cauliflower rice and roasted cauliflower. I didnt think I'd like roasted cauliflower - but cut in thick slices, drizzled with oil and suitable spices - and yep I do.

    *******

and...yep...we've still got summer here in Wales and I've missed her so much that I may never let her go again LOL.

Camelot, some of the tiles we've looked at have been matte, but not rough IYSWIM. I'm making a mental note of your cleaning bother for when we look at patio tiles. Though I guess we'd be more likely to use a hose and stiff broom, but nontheless, worth testing out.

Monnagran, your DGD has been taking lessons from my friends kids. When asked how old I was she replied about 50, thinking she was flattering me. As far as decor goes I'm going with just as I see fit. Fashion and I tend to collide infrequently and accidentally. Sometimes my taste looks that way, but to be fair when I decorated a flat 15 years ago, my taste was pretty darned similar and I wouldn't be displeased with that decor now.

Speaking of fashion accidentally happening, hubby is thrilled to bits he can buy pants easily. The current fashion for skinny, suits him to a t. Even his beard is fashionable. Whoda thunk it.

Floss, you brought the rain about by wishing it would seem. Now, if you can just get the timing right you could avoid watering altogether. ...

No cauliflower growing for me here. They're far too bug prone. I battle unidentifiable things off of plants that no beastie in their right mind eats. Still, we don't need Sir David and his nature docos to find entertainment :D

I don't envy you your wildlife Softstuff... a colleague sent me some links that I refused to look at and told him that was why I would NEVER be setting foot in Australia!

Re. bathroom tiles - white tiles on the floor of the ensuite show the dirt much more than the travertine on the bathroom floor... just a thought.

DS ( who's a tiler) redid our little bathroom when we were away & he chose the floor tiles. They are gloss white streaked with grey and they are easy to clean and always look clean. Unfortunately I went to town in our ensuite and chose black sparkle granite - B nightmare - they show every hair, speck of dust & water spot. Look stunning when they're clean but should be mopped every day - shame they only get done once a week!
Monna - looks like I'll be in your neck of the woods at the beginning of July - weather permitting maybe we could meet up for a coffee or summat? I might even be able to persuade you to step on board if only for 5 mins ;)
If weather stays dry I'll be power washing the last paved area in the garden down by the shed. It tends to be a neglected area and I'm hoping to rectify that during the summer. Picked my first two mini cucumbers yesterday but none of the tomatoes have set yet.
Need to mend the lining on a jacket - it's frayed apart down the centre back seam - I don't think they do any seam allowances now, everything is overlocked
Have a good day all x
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

    :p coward!

We're having concrete look grey on the floor, gloss white on the walls. Our current bathroom is pale grey floored and my biggest bugbear is you can see every hair on it. And hubby is a furry beast.
