The Garden Fence - help and support in tough times

softstuff - After the builder had so much trouble cleaning the grout off the tiles, the company we got them from gave us compensation and admitted that they should not have been recommended for indoor use so may be good for an outdoor area. Personally, I love the rough feel but hate everything else about them. If I had the money I would have them removed!0

Monagran, if I'd had tea in mouth I would have had a similar problem to Elona.
Elona, I love those home reno shows, but pick them to pieces.... "no undercoat??"... "he didn't even sand it"... "look at his edges".... "he's got paint all over the skirting". I'm picky down to the smallest details, so there's no way they're coming in my house. Tradesmen need to be equally as fussy about the job or they don't do it here. In any case, a good job takes preparation and time, both of which are lacking in these shows. And I'm sure your kitchen will be better finished in the end.
I'm amazed at so much white in a rental Tired trophy, very unusual. I like lots of light.
Camelot, I wonder how you'd get grout off those even outdoors. They sound horrific.I do prefer a bit of texture to none, but will be wary now.
We've had the landscaper here today, he'll start Thursday , I've ordered taps and shower fittings, tiles (for every room apart from the main area) and my plug socket arrived. Then, on the estate side I've ordered my birth certificate, spoken to a notary public, spoken to a translator. ... it's all happening. And costing money :rotfl:Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
MTSTM, we found a bed buried in one of our back gardens once when digging and the garden shed was full of all the wallpaper they had stripped over the previous20 years.
Monna, how's the toy cull going? I have found a home for most of my fabric, it's gone to Project Linus, so you are safe from a fabric giveaway.
The yarn, well that's a whole nother story!Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Yikes Hester - and, knowing your luck, I'll bet it was a bog-standard modern day bed - rather than a nice antique type one you could clean up and flog off (or keep and regard it as very handy for "bedtime activities" with all the different bits of headboard you could have tied something to - ahem...;)).0

Morning all. Have been reading along and chuckling.
When we moved here, we dug up a complete rabbit hutch in the garden (complete with expired rabbit) and a rolled up carpet. It's taken nearly nine years but the garden is now beautiful, even if I do say so myself.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
When we were away for a couple of days last week we popped into a Tesco store for a picnic and when chatting to the girlie on the till she told us that the 26th June is the last day that Tesco are running the BONUS DOUBLE UP YOUR POINTS SCHEME after that it will be FINISHED. I didn't have many as I don't often spend serious money in the shop but I doubled what I did have and bought a kitchen gadget I'd wanted for a while. Thought this might be a good place to just flag up that information as we might as well take advantage of the double up if we need anything specific, Lyn xxx.0

Monna - no worries I have spare lifejackets and roughy toughy DH will be there to assist any maidens that need his help ( or not!)! Oh gawd if your neck of the woods is becoming yuppiefied I'll certainly be lowering the tone!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
-
Not all of this neck of the woods Silva. Just the Pilot. Don't worry, lowering the tone is my default setting.

Camelot, what about a very soft handbrush dipped in soapy water for your floor and drying off with an old towel?
Very annoyed with myself as ruined a brand new rug by dropping a bottle of sun oil nearby and left with an oily mark. What are the chances in Central Scotland??0 -
Thanks juliettet, I've tried mopping up with towels and the rough surface of the cloth sticks to the tiles and then I'm left with lots of specks of towel! I will try the soft handbrush though, that's a good idea. I scrubbed them at the weekend with a body puff and then sucked up the excess with the window vac!
Still really warm here but no sunshine at the moment. We've been threatened with a thunder storm for the past few days, I wonder when it will actually happen.
Off to see 'Money Monster' in a mo. Even if the story is pants George Clooney will make good scenery.0
